considering an upgrade. what to go for?

was thinking of upgrading, because it feels like my system is grinding to a halt at the moment:

here's my current spec:

CPU: AMD 64 3500+ Venice
Motherboard: epox nforce 4 s939
Graphics Card: radeon X1950PRO
Memory: 2 Gb
Power Supply: fortron atx 550W
Display: iiyama prolite 430s
Sound Card: creative SB audigy 2
hard drive:Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250GB SATA
8MB 7200RPM NCQ

i was thinking of a bundle from komplett like this

first off, do you think this is a good upgrade? or should i invest straightaway into this?

i don't think i'd want to change gpu straightaway as it's still quite new, so would it really slow it down?

and last question, should i consider getting a new harddrive then?

I think you should forget about upgrading to another AMD platform and go with a intel setup. Q6600, x38 mobo, 4gb ram, 8800gt and your sorted.

Look at benchmarks, reviews, anything! Since the Intel Core series came out in 2006, AMD just have not been able to compete, power or price wise.

okay, found 2 bundles

one with the intel e6850 and one with the quad Q6000

is there a lot of difference between these 2? which one would you rate higher?

You'd probably have to reformat anyway as you'll have a different motherboard. Actually there's ways of getting around having to reinstall Windows (if that's what you're talking about) but I forget what you need to do and if it's completely reliable.

I assume you mean Q6600. Depends what you're doing with the PC really, but generally you'll probably be better off with the Quad - it can be overclocked to 3GHz easily enough anyway, so will be better in every way than the E6850 that way.

Komplett is quite expensive, that Quad core bundle isnt great value..

Asus motherboard isnt great, ram is cheap 667mhz stuff..

Very good sli motherboard, with decent overclocking, its so cheap because its second hand ( someone might have had it for a day and returned it ), but they are in perfect condition, I have bought 3 mobo's in the last 2 months for up to 1/4 cost of new stock and they have been perfect..
