Right he's not your famous name so get your thinking caps on.

    Clues:

    - completely ****ed up in the head, borderline suicide job imo.
    - his brother is a stand-up aswell, don't think they get on.
    - think he wore a leather jacket when I seen him, think it's his 'thing'.
    - just didn't give a **** about anything.
    - smokes on stage, I think!
    - would be in his late 40s but doesn't look it, works out, shows off his body
    - got a role on a mainstream sit-com but it bombed.

some of those clues might be a bit wide of the mark but my memory is hazy of him.

    Denis O' Leary?

You mean Denis Leary? I said he's not a famous name. This guy is obscure, performs in comedy clubs in NYC. From looking down at the rest of the threads in this forum i've probably come to the wrong place. Better off going to a stand-alone stand-up forum somewhere.

Think I got it...Sounds like Andrew Dice Clay,or the the DiceMan as he's known...most of your memories are correct, although he used to be incredibly popular, being the first ever comedian to play and sell-out huge stadiums in the U.S..

Here's a pretty recent clip of him goin nuts on CNN

ha ha, it's not him actually, but I can see from my clues why you thought it was :D

The guy I'm thinking of would never have sold a stadium ticket in his life.

    Really bugging me.

I reckon it may be Christopher Titus (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0864541/) ... Dont think he has a bro but hes a big dude, had a tv show & really doesnt seem to like people. I'm not sure if he's a smoker though.

What era are we talking though? Is this guy still alive?

    No not him. :(

The stuff I seen was in the last couple of years, unless he's topped himself I reckon he'd be still alive.

Any more clues? Is he black/white?

Is it Norm MacDonald? He was in a show that got cancelled ...

He's white with dark (greasy, maybe) hair, possibly Italian-American. Real edgy stuff, audience feeling really uncomfortable. It's like he's lost the plot, having a breakdown of sorts.

At the risk of being laughed off the form, and I know it's not in the correct age group, but...

.... we're not talking about Bill Hicks, here, are we?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    Would it be Rick Shapiro?
His brother Rob is also a stand up?

Most other details also seem to fit...

You absolute hero. It's actually Rob I think I was looking for. Excellent thanks.
