    no. http://www.vegansociety.com/newsroom/index.php?/plugin/faqs/1/1
but i suppose it's up to the individual what they choose to eat in their diet.

maple syrup or golden syrup do the trick in place of honey ;)

I was reading reviews online of Blazing Salads in Dublin a while back, and there were a bunch of people complaining about the addition of Maple syrup to, I presume, the cookies (which are yummy)(although I haven't been there in a while).

I really can't see how people have problems with this, the only explanation I can think of is that someone told them that sugar = bad, therefore anything sweet = unhealthy. Weird.

Here's the link if anyone is extremely bored :-p

i don't see the harm in maple syrup. if people want sugar free food they shouldn't be eating cookies :)

Also may fruits have a large amount of simple sugars, and maple is a plant derived sugar

Speaking of maple syrup, where can i buy it? Have tried everywhere and can't seem to get it and there was I thinking it would be in any old supermarket!

marks and spencers do a good one, many health food shops also do it and I think Tesco might

Agree with Tar here, by definition it is not but the strictness with which one adheres to such beliefs is subjective.

Thanks! Had been to Dunnes, Supervalu and a few health food shops and couldn't find it, Marks it is so!

lol! I hope you found the elusive maple syrup :)

Indeed I did, ta! My local Dunnes have suddenly started stocking it. Probably because I've asked for it so many times, they must think that there's great demand for the stuff!!

May have been that the sugar in the syrup wasn't sourced or something. Some sugars are refined with bone char, hence why some vegans are wary of certain sugar brands, etc.

As for an apt replacement for honey, agarve nectar does the job fine. It's honey, but without the bees.

Lyle's golden syrup and maple syrup are vegan.

Although I think the maple syrup is not maple syrup but a maple flavoured syrup, but it tastes good so I'm not too bothered!

I only heard of agave nectar a few months ago, but I've never tried it, I never really liked honey so i doubt I'll be replacing my maple flavoured syrup with it.

Hmmm. I would like to know more... where would one purchase such a thing?

Don't know if Ireland has Holland and Barretts but they stock it, most health food shops will no doubt stock it, supermarkets like Tescos, Morrisons etc usually stock it in their free from/organic sections. Or it can be bought online.

http://www.groovyfood.co.uk/thingswemake/agavenectar.html (there will be other companies who will do agave nectar too)

    Seems I spelt it wrong, lol...no r...

You can get agave in Nourish and in some Superquinns. I have bought both the mild and strong (darker) syrups and they're both amazing. Have some everyday with my porridge. There's always a bottle sitting at my desk in work. Sometimes I just squeeze some onto my finger and eat it on its own. Oh did i just share that????? :o
