Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. who do ye want to replace Drogba or would ye prefer him to stay?

What is your ideal starting team for us next year?

    .........................Cech........................
    ..Boswinga......Carvalho...Terry.......A.Cole
    .........................Mikel.........................
    ...........Essien................Ballack............
    ....J.Cole.........................New Guy........
    ...................New Guy/Drogba...............

    For me

I think Lampard leaving will be great for Chelsea to be honest. He forces you to play a 4-5-1 imo, without him, you can play a midfield of Essien and Ballack is required. IMO wingers are where Chelsea are not good enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭ShoulderChip

yeah i agree with you there PHB just don't know who the obvious wingers to buy are?
the spanish are usually the best for providing them but i'm not sure about silva, cazorla or indeed joaquin,

ronaldinho is a possibility as is robinho with the money available to big phil.

    can you think of any?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

I don't know to be honest who is out there.
Robinho is good but not necessarily clear how well he'd do in the premiership.

Ashley Young imo should be looked at, I'm hopeful United make a move for him.

next Season ill be worried about this atm he aint going anywhere and even if he was 18m ish for Barry...guess how much Villa would ask for our real prized asset.

anyway I could see Chelsea going for Villa (the player) but doubt he would want the move to London. Robinho I would like to see, think he could really surprise some people although he may take some time to adapt, iirc he didnt immediatley make an impact in Spain but is still improving and slowley getting to levels he showed potential to achieve when in Brazil.

    Kalou = Robinho

Give him another year, wait and see!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Kalou's a great talent, no doubt, but he's more of a striker really isn't he?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,698 ✭✭✭IrishMike

Not really PHB, his assists rate this year are only beaten by Fabregas and Young.
    Quality player IMHO

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,956 ✭✭✭CHD

i think he's exactly like Robinho can play Striker but is a more effective attacker.

Didnt play too much last season and his stats and performances were great. Kinda like a unsung hero, not much was said about him.I think he will develop into a top player and will start to show real quality this year.Hope so anyway Chelsea' record with buying attackers/Strikers isn't great!

I really think that we should look at Ibra as a replacement or Drogba, especially if he is going to Inter. He's a quality player who get's his weight in assists and still weighs in with 10-15 goals in a bad season. He's nordic so he shouldn't have much problems settling in and he would work well as a target man.

As for Lampard, if we do lose him I'd be fairly devestated. He's one of two players (Terry being the other) who I was confident would stay regardless, not to mention that he's worth at least 15 goals a season to us and is one of the most consistent players in the league

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,956 ✭✭✭CHD

If lampard does move on it wont be so bad, Ballack and Essien are top midfielders.

I'd love to see Klose come in but hes probably past it at this stage.Villa would be a great signing but dont think he could replace Drogba but i cant see us playing the excuse for 4-3-3 4-5-1 system we currently play.

Surely we can do better that bentley.

    football ...

Reckon Scolari will wanna keep Ballack ??

He must be gutted after being runner up AGAIN !! ...

even tho match yesterday was fixed...

Why do you think the match yesterday was fixed? tbh, Ballack was a disgrace last night.
Germany were the stronger team going in, we all expected them to win(even though we supported Spain) but last nights match was lacklustre.

Scolari should concentrate on maintaining his team; if Drogba and Lampard go he would have a relatively young and hungry team. The thing with ye is that ye have too much money and talent.:D

Can't wait for the Premiership to start, lets see what Scolari can do, would he be better than Grant but then again he may be fired next year knowing Abramovich

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,698 ✭✭✭IrishMike

Ballack has been carrying an injury for the past 2 games.
Bit much to say he was a disgrace in fairness.
Everyone is entitled to an off game, especially if they are not fully fit.

I thought he was fully fit, but if he was carrying an injury going into last nights match he should have been substituted.

Lets stick with Chelsea .. don't take my comments seriously .. I just read the other post about Lehman ..

anyway .. yeah should be interesting with Scolari all right, he should be
better then Grant but i don't know will he be as good as Mourinho ..

    time will tell ...

okay, what's the story with this lampard thing. It's not on any of the soccer sites (soccernet/teamtalk etc) Only place I've seen it is that link you posted.... can someone confirm if this has actually happened, or just more rumours?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭ShoulderChip

yeah i dont think there is anything definite yet, there were reports since saturday that it was completed from an unnamed source in italy,
then yesterday other sketchy report suggested that scolari woul prefer to "leave him rot" in the stands and not sell him.

Robinho's agen officialy said chelsea are interersted today

and paper talk linking us with adebayor

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,900 ✭✭✭V9

Robinho would get lumps kicked outta him in the premiership, imo

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,956 ✭✭✭CHD

Scolari hsn't even joined the club yet.Next week will be very busy with transfer activity at the club.Lampard staying or going is all pure speculation until Scolari talks to him.If he goes he goes but Essien and Ballack in midfield is still top class.

We need a striker, a good one who isnt in hs 30's!!

A striker and a good left winger, Malouda is dire, stick Cole back on the right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭ShoulderChip

Lampard: "Inter? Let's wait and see. For the moment I am here on holiday with my family," said the 30-year-old.

"My future at Chelsea? I don't know anything yet," he added.

"Italy is a beautiful country but I am not due to meet anyone here."

From a dodgy enough source though.

Deco close to signing after talks in London, breaking news on SSN

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭ShoulderChip

    Is makelele going to stay?
I assumed he was, but read somewhere he was expected to move onto PSG

what will our midfield be if deco comes?

    which 3 out ok

    Mikel, Makelele, Ballack, Essien, Deco?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

you assuming Lampard is definately gone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭ShoulderChip

yeah I guess I am if deco comes,

I couldn't see Deco coming and lampard staying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,188 ✭✭✭growler

well thats deco confirmed then, looking even more likely that frank will go shortly, which wouldn't be the worst thing to ever happen to cfc as i think ballack is well capable of taking his place in the squad.

only personal problem for me is that deco has always been a diving ******* of the highest order as well as being a very skillful player, hope to see more skill and less of his theatrics.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 686 ✭✭✭corcaighcailin9

Don't usually post in the chelsea forum but have just seen the confirmation of deco's signing. As a utd fan, would rather see him than lamps in the midfield tbh.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,854 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

Is Drogba still leaving? its all gone quiet on that front recently

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,188 ✭✭✭growler

ballack and lampard are too similar to really work effectively in the same team imo , get in each others way and almost force chelsea to pack the midfield.

re Drogba, seems to be very quite on that front alright, hope he's staying !
