Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm looking to buy a new set of speakers for my laptop and want to get a the best within my budget, about 500. I was looking at Bose's Companion 5 speakers but have read mixed reviews about them such as them taking the "feeling" out of the music..

    Any Suggestions?

    Laptop is a mac BTW.

Bose are totally overpriced and terrible value don't waste your money. You will need active speakers and choice is fairly slim.Audioengine A2 and A5 are very good value for money depending on what size suits and also Acoustic Energy Aego M are well liked.Dynaudio do a really nice pair of actives MC15 but they are pretty expensive.
Its also worth noting that you should have your cds ripped to a decent quality to get good results. You should also consider a DAC some thing like the EMU 0404
    USB, its an excellent product.
What id go with is your Mac into an EMU 0404 into a pair of Audioengine A2 or A5.You should have a few bob left over to get a few new CDs too.

Sorry i had forgotten about this thread. The emu is an external dac/soundcard/headphone amp. With the usb you are by passing your internal soundcard, the emu is better than majority of soundcards out there and also has a built in digital to analogue converter inside.

I don't know of any here.Advanced mp3 are safe as houses if you go that route. There are a few vids on youtube of audioengine products to give you an idea.
