I'm doing the Hibernian Ignition test in Cork in a week or so. Although I've read what it entails on the Hibernian website, I'm wondering if anyone who has done it can give me some specific information on what's involved.

Also, do you drive a car provided by Hibernian or your own car?

    Thanks.

I done it a few years ago. They'll tell you it's not like the driving test all over again, but it really is. You have to do all that mirror-every-30 second lark and all of that. By the way, Hibernian provided the car (with dual controls).

I failed it the first time around because I got into an argument with the instructor (don't ask).

If you're looking for cheap insurance (Which I assume you are if you're doing that poxy course), just go with Quinn Direct.

I'm doing it because my mother booked it for me! My quote is for 400 euro with the course so cheap insurance isn't really an issue.

I'm not too worried about my driving, but I don't know the area well.

Well ... you do drive in areas you don't know every so often. Its not just about the cheap insurance, some of the practical stuff is quite good to know. Think of it more as education rather than just cheap insurance

I done it as well a few years ago. be careful as they are marking you the whole time you are driving even though they say its only the second time.
also turn on the lights as soon as you get in the car(if they ask why say you want to be more visable to other drivers) The tester was telling us we should put on the lights. Anyway best of luck. also i found insure.ie to get the best car quote this year.

That's something you shoudl do the whole time anyways. My mam's uncle was an Ignition tester for a few months after retiring as a detective, he said he was only allowed to pass a certain percentage of people at full marks in a given period (the discount is better the better you do), which makes the whole thing pointless if the tester has already reached his or her quota.

Well at least they upped the engine limit tom 1600cc seemed pointless when you could only drive 1400cc cars

As I said in the post you quoted, cheap insurance is not an issue. From what you say it seems worth it though.

    The limit was always 1.6L
