Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Netophia 2247NWG Setup Problem

I hope someone can advise me on the following problem.
I have been using an old Zytel 600 modem with BT broadband and it works fine. Recently I purchased a laptop and decided to go for a Wireless modem. I had access to a free netophia 2247NWG (Eircom) and set it up for BT, changed passwords etc. It works great via the wireless on the laptop, very fast.
The problem is with the desktop which is connect to the netophia via ethernet cable. It takes ages for a web site to load, even www.google.ie takes at lest 30 second to a minute to load a home page. The cable is ok as its the same one I use with the Zytel. Change back to Zytel and everything is normal again. !!!
Anyone have any ideas, should I have used the Eircom disc that came with the router for drivers. I am unclear as whether the Netophia is detected by the Desktop XP as hardware and loads the drivers automatically or is it an unattached piece of kit. ???
Desktop Dell 8200 using XP RAM 512.
Laptop HP Pavilion Vista Home premium RAM 3GB.

I cannot understand why desktop is fine with Zytel and more or less useless with the Netophia.

    Thanks

No you don't need to use the Eircom CD. You also don't need drivers if you are connecting via ethernet. It's possible you could have misconfigured DNS settings and this is slowing things down a bit.

What is the DNS setting, How do I find what it is for BT.
Is this an internal setting in the router and can I access it via the expert mode.?
Is the DNS setting for the Zytel different from the Netophia. ??
Any help appreciated as this problem is driving me crazy.

    Thanks

Sorry about that, your router will pick up DNS settings automatically as it gets its WAN address via DHCP. So this should be configured correctly anyway. If you're computer is configured to get an IP address via DHCP (which is quite likely) then your DNS server should be something like 192.168.1.1

The DNS servers that your modem/router should have picked up are:
    Preferred DNS : 192.111.39.1
    Alternate DNS : 192.111.39.4

I haven't got a Netopia router on hand to check so you'll have to get out your manual unless someone else on here can help.

    Thank you for that info.
I will check it out and see what the settings are.
I am also going to try USB wireless dongle on the desktop to to see what
the web page loading is like on wireless.
    Thanks again
