    Hi,

After reading through the posts on this forum I have decide to get a couple of dental implants done here in ireland. I have been doing as much research as I can on the various dentists that offer the service in Ireland but Im finding it hard to find out which dentists have a lot of experience placing implants etc.

If I am considering getting implants placed should the dentist that places them have a masters or more in Prosthodontics to be on the safe side.

I notice a number of dentists advertising on web here have qualifications similar to the following B.A. B. Dent. Sc. (Hons) + some others have extra qualifications like "completion of surgical implant programme and prosthetic implant programme at Misch Implant Institute in Detroit, Michigan and Temple University, Pittsburg" and "3i Implant course in Dublin (1 year part time)" etc. Should I be reassured by these type of qualifications? I honestly dont know how to judge what is a good level of training etc for a dentist to have before they can place implants safely.

There have been several usernames signed up from your ip address?

But to answer your question, more training will generally mean a better result. I am biased though. Implants are not easy to get correct so get the best person you can. The marketing and Internet sites are not that great to get a recommendations off of, cause of course the websites ( I know the one you lifted from) are set up to promote that practice. Get impartial advice usually best from your family general dentist.

Thank you for your reply fitzgeme. Much appreciated. Im using a shared laptop so that could explain the different usernames from same IP address?

I do intend going to my dentist to see what his recommendation is but out of curiosity, does the practice whose site I lifted the qualifications from have a good reputation in general?

Do you have any recommendations for practices that specialize in implants/bridges/crowns etc.

Appreciate any help I can get.

Once again, thank you for your reply fitzgeme. Very much appreciated. Would it be ok If I wrote down the name of the dental practice and see what other peoples opinions on it are?

I have a very strong view about one of their dentists who apparently is an implant specialist. PM me if you want his name but I would recommend you avoid him as he couldn't spot my gum disease even with an xray and loose front teeth. The bleeding gums should've given it away but apparently not. He was more interested in selling whitening products than anything else. He wasn't in that practice at the time so I can't comment on the clinic itself.

The guys at *** mod edit, no names allowed, thread dug up from the past so need to edit now**** do not hold any post graduate qualifications whatsoever, they are not Oral Surgeons/periodontists/prosthodontists etc and their training in regard to placement of dental implants extends to some part time and weekend courses in USA/Portugal etc.

Very true. But people see this list of courses and think they are extra qualifications. Thats the problem.

The ****mod edit**** does in fact have an Oral Surgeon and fully qualified orthodontist onsite.

In relation to the issue of qualifications for dental implants; there are numerous specialists all over the world arguing over which one is entitled to place implants. Periodontists argue that they are the best as they know gum and bone best, Oral surgeons claim they are best surgically, prosthodontists claim they know best where the implant should be placed etc. The fact is that a dentist who is appropriately trained is able and entitled to place implants as per any other part of dentistry.

There are very few post graduate programmes which include a major portion of the course on dental implants. It is necessary for most dentists to educate themsevles part time as a result.

The dentists at *** mod edit, no names allowed, thread dug up from the past so need to edit now**** placing implants have limited their practice to cosmetic and implant dentistry and have successfully placed thousands of imlpants. As with any major decision you should talk to the dentist and satisty yourself as to their experience before you proceed.

No names allowed according to the new forum charter, also if I were you i would have let this thread fade away rather than resurrecting it. No good will come of it and I cannot allow blatant shilling. If you want your name removed from past threads just PM me and I will do it.

Your username gives aways your affiliation so I am afraid I am banning you from the forum. Feel free to sign up with a less conspicuous user name but be sure to PM me and let me know.

You guys are welcome to input into the forum but only within the forum charter.

BTW: every post graduate program (except maybe endo and paedo) in the world concentrates heavily on dental implants (espically the implant placement programs like NYU, eastmann, Southern Illinois...etc...etc...).

Fitzgeme, Seapoint1 is quite right, there are a few guys there who have specialist qualifications, all except the two guys out front who have certificates from The "Finest Dentists in Ireland" post grad course.

    [FONT=verdana, helvetica, sans-serif]Hi,

Last October i got an implant done (the first stage) in Bangkok. Now i know it is coming time to do the second stage, and put the crown on. But with airfares all the way to Thailand im not sure if its feasible for me. Can anyone recommend a good dentist to do it in Dublin or up North?

    Thanks!:D

zesty, first you have to find out what brand of implant was used and if it was an original or a generic, then find clinics who use that type of implant.
