Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So what do we fancy from this?

A few red cards from the Turks? A Ronaldo hattrick?

Definitely a goalfest, I thnk we can all agree!

I optimistically predict 4-3 to Portugal.

Boring nil all draw with Ronaldo to lose his leg in the first minute from diving in to the post, ends his career and all these rumours about him going to Madrid end:D

    down_with_this_sort_of_thing.jpg

Refs have take charge and start booking divers.

There seem to be rather more Turks than Portuguese in the crowd.

    Mike.

He'll disappoint the idiots if he doesn't score a hat-trick or something. A good team performance is what's required, perhaps with some flashes of individual brilliance. And actually please people that know something about football.

What happened to Ronny being the new Portuguese captain? That ended pretty quick

He was never officially the new captain. He was made captain for a friendly at the request of the President of the Portuguese football federation, who had made the request (for him to be captain) before his death, as a gesture.

Scolari reckons he's too young to be captain. He's right.

Ronaldo walked out ahead of Ricardo today though didnt he?

Pepe has just put Portugal 1up

Nice goal, lovely one two all beit a small deflection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,732 ✭✭✭Reganio 2

That Pepe chap is having a brilliant game solid at the back and is causing major problems for the Turks when he goes forward. I have seen him for Madrid and thought he wsa good but looking at this today he looks very good albeit against a very poor Turkey team.

    Another ordinary display from Deco

    Well that was something different.

Just watched the game with two turkish guys.

lets just say fanatics is not strong enough to describe how much they 'love' football. I think we hid the knives in our apt cos teh nigerian guy was pissing them off so much.

    wow.

    International Football > Club football

It just has so much more, and the matches tonight weren't even that good.

Nice game from Portugal, they can come to final if they play this good, but Turkey was just poor in 2nd half time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I don't think Portugal are up to much. They got the job done but they don't come across like a tournament heavyweight. The Croatians and the Germans won't be too fearful of facing them in the next round. I think they'll struggle against either of those two.

    Along with:

"Kaka is a real player, scored in important games, scored in the CL final." Eh, no he didn't.

"Oh its Czechs on the attack, I'm down to do this"

And the worst ever "Deco is a class act"

Possibley, but Portugal have arguabley the best coach. Scolari's a great tactician.

Turkey are clearly going to follow the route of the Dutch in '88; losing their opening match before going onto slay everybody in their path and win the tournament! :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,008 ✭✭✭delija_sever029

Maybe if they disqualify 10 or 11 teams out of the tournament

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,065 ✭✭✭✭Malice

Pepe's opening goal was very well worked. The Turks really didn't seem to be up to much and if it hadn't been for the woodwork saving them on three occasions they could have been well and truely spanked!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

Was well impressed with Portugal but I can see that they may struggle against some of the stronger better organised teams like Italy or Germany.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,399 ✭✭✭✭Thanx 4 The Fish

Yes, they did look like they were having trouble once Turkey came forward with any numbers. They will be taken out by a stronger team. No problems in that group mind.

Portugal knew they were playing a week team last night - they had 4 defenders, one holding mid and 5 attackers. They won't play the same side against stronger opposition.
