Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. First match and a chance for austrians to prove everyone were wrong making fun of them.Judging by laest infos and their acting with ignoring coach and with coming late on trainings should make us to think maybe even they give up already coz atmosphere in the team is terrible.Anyway they will have huge motivation and who knows what can happen, maybe surprise but probably just nothing. On the other side Croatia can be one of the teams who can surprise and mess job to other candidates for winning euro. This game is good chance for them to show they can go far on this euro and take first 3 points. My bet,Croatia to win and thats realistic but on the other side i would count on crowd and austrian motivation and say its gonna be draw,so we'll see...

I see Austria being the whipping boys of that group tbph.

Hosts and all that may motivate them but 'I' just cant see it. Wouldn't feel bad if they proved me wrong tho :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,008 ✭✭✭delija_sever029

Well the only reason, just a little one to believe they can do something are those frindly games they played lately and i watched them, they had so huge motivation playing on stadium where they will play tonight and crowd was fantastic and giving them great support, they looked kinda like they can make some result with all that. But definitly they dont have any quality and they make really huge mistakes like amateurs and thats why they can in few minutes get few goals in their net which they also proved in friendly with Holland where they had 3-0 on HT and at the end lost 3-4

This has to be the biggest bookie mistake in the tourney.

Croatia at evens .... can't see any other result than a Croatia win.

I'll go sprinkle some seasoning on my hat.

Didn't the Austrians beat the English 2-0 back in the World Cup qualifiers? I know its a long time back but maybe they're not quite as bad as everyone wants to make out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,399 ✭✭✭✭Thanx 4 The Fish

    Nope, they definitely are.

    Yep, wasn't that James mistake?

Croatia are a quality team... 2-0 prediction... Is Rakitic starting? He's going to be a big star.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,008 ✭✭✭delija_sever029

    Austria:

    Jürgen Macho Stipe Pletikosa
    Sebastian Prödl Vedran Corluka
    Martin Stranzl
    Emanuel Pogatetz
    Christoph Leitgeb
    Rene Aufhauser
    Jürgen Säumel
    Martin Harnik
    Andreas Ivanschitz
    Christian Fuchs
    Roland Linz

    Croatia:

    Stipe Pletikosa
    Vedran Corluka
    Robert Kovac
    Josip Simunic
    Danijel Pranjic
    Niko Kovac
    Dario Srna
    Luka Modric
    Niko Kranjcar
    Ivica Olic
    Mladen Petric

Cheers for that, changed Rakitic for Modric in my fantasy league, and brought in Basinas because I think the Greeks should be able to beat the Swedish with relative ease.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,065 ✭✭✭✭Malice

I'd say the Austrians will be motivated to hit the ground running and if they get off to a good start and if the crowd gets behind them then who knows? Mind you, in reality, the Croats will probably control the game and win fairly comfortably. I haven't had a chance to see Modric properly so it will be interesting to see how he does.

I think Croatia are the real deal, even without Eduardo. Krancjar, Modric and Petric will cause problems for any team (and should tear Austria apart) and their back 6 are solid, experienced and committed, with the ability to carry the ball forward as well. Not sure about that Olic lad, but I don't see why Croatia couldn't beat any team.

I agree with Bubs.....a bit overrated.

Lots and lots of goals or assists for Modric please

and Esteban was referring to a post by Bubs in the Portugal topic where he said Croatia are overhyped by the English to make themselves feel better

If Croatia are evens that's a great bet. They should be more like 1/2. I won't be near a bookies unfortunately but if I was I'd be tempted to have a few quid on that. Croatia to win 2-0.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,008 ✭✭✭delija_sever029

Yeah i noticed now on page i saw rosters its updated now,Standfest and Gercaliu are in,Leitgeb and Fuchs are out

Meh Croatia. Good enough team, but dark horse my ****ing ass.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,283 ✭✭✭Smegball

Olic is like the Croatian Dirk Kuyt, hard working but limited quality ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,008 ✭✭✭delija_sever029

I must say i confirmed my opinion no matter on result,Croatia didnt show anything in this first half and Austria was attacking last 10-15min very well, its a question what result would look like if Croatia didnt have that peno after which austrian motivation cracked

i was gonna say he is like the Croatian Ronaldo, good player, but really should stop flapping about on the ground like a little woman ;)

Austrians made sh!te on the beggining and ruined the game for themselves,i just feel game would be totally different without that peno and maybe even Austria to lead after things they showed.NExt 45min could be very interesting, but i still feel they will attack and at the end make another mistake and give chance Croatia gets 2-0 and than its going to be over, thats the way austrians playing always....

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

Croatia look like they'll miss Eduardo too much to get far. Olic and Petric aren't sufficient.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,098 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

perfect game for the betting man really. had 20 on croatia before it at evens, just put 5e on the draw at 9-2, so barring exceptional stuff from Austria ill be makin money!

Another one i spotted on PP is France V Romania, France are 5-6 to win, pretty tasty as i cant see anything but a france win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

Romania are decent rebel, beat Holland twice in qualification if iirc

Indeed. Getting out of their group would be some achievement but i'd expect them to have a say in it.

good thing i didn't put too much on em ;) Haven't seen much of Romania tbh, but im just in awe of France's squad mixture of youth and experience. still worth the bet i think, especially at almost evens.

Croatia will do well to hold them out at this rate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,703 ✭✭✭Bacchus

Go on Austria! Really hope they get a goal back here. They deserve it. Pity they don't have the skill cos they certainly have the spirit.

The amount of diving and playacting from the Croatians! Srna and Olic especially.
