Was talking to a friend of mine about this. One of their kids goes through a lot of glasses. They get his eyes tested regularly but they'd like to be able to get the glasses cheaper. Can they be bought online? (I believe in the UK you can't buy them online)

Personally I wouldnt risk buying kids glasses online (I wouldnt risk buying any glasses online but that's another story). Kinds go through a "critical period" in relation to the development of their vision and any type of correction needed needs to be exact in the specifications. Any disruption in the development at this stage can have an effect on the child's vision for life.
Your friend can apply to get vouchers for the cost of the lenses (not the frames) but the health board should cover the cost of 3 sets of lenses in a 12 month period for any child in primary school
    Hope this helps
