Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My dad called me with a problem on his computer. His email was downloading thousands of emails. Turn out one of his email accounts had "Leave messages on the server" box ticked. How 1500 emials were re-downloaded and duplicated.

Is there any way to remove these duplicates easily?

Also, his sent items are gone! No idea why.

He said the only thing that was different wasa message asking if he wants to compact his mailbox - he said yes and it did it, now this.

What a pain in the ass...
    Any suggestions?

if his messages are being kept on the server then he is using an IMAP client (internet message access protocol), hence the 'leave messages on server'. if his messages are being downloaded every time he connects then he's using POP3 (post office protocol v3). he needs to decide which one he wants. he's much better off using webmail. if his sent messages are gone, and he's using POP, then the messages are all held in a file-based format. can't remember exactly where these are but it's somewhere in \windows\outlook\...
do a search for a folder like inbox.da da da
this path is in the registry under \hkey_local_machine\software\..
google it and you'll find it
