Hosting issue - re ftp

I have 2 sites. I had both with company a then switched one of them to company b - both irish.

The site I've transferred I cannot for the life of me ftp to. The company has been quite helpful but still can't get a resolution. The login details are rejected every time. The DNS has been changed and propogated so not an issue afaik.

Even on my home pc when I try to go straight to the http://www site, IE says it cannot display the page. The ftp one does exactly the same.

Now the hosting company have said they can do it no problem and here is the thing, I can actually get to these sites from work PC so something must be wrong with home pc.

Withiin the hosting companies control panel it will not let me change the ftp passwords either which seems strange, just reverts back.

Incidently I can still ftp to my other site no problem so don't think it is ftp software problem. Any ideas? I have cleared the cache on IE.

Firefox also gives same result so could not be a brower issue?

Try to FTP to the IP address instead of the domain name.

    Is port 21 (ftp) open?

    Are you behind a firewall?

Also, why would you send passwords in plaintext via ftp? I'd use sftp if at all possible. sftp (port 22) may not be blocked -- worth a try.
