A polling card is only sent to you to let you know the name and address of your polling station. It is not necessary to have a polling card in order to vote. You just go to your polling station with photo I.D. and give your name and address to the Presiding Officer.

    afaik

That assumes that you have photo I.D. and I am still waiting for my new passport to arrive.
I have never been asked for photo I.D. when I have had the polling card.

I got 2 ! One to my parents house and 1 to my new. Even though I have informed them twice to stop sending out the card to my mothers.

My polling card lists out a load of things besides photo ID that you can use:

    i)passport
    ii) driving license
    iii) employee identity card
    iv) student identity card
    v) travel document with name/photograph
    vi) Bank/Savings/Credit union book.

They also accept the following with proof of address:

    vii) cheque book
    viii) cheque guarantee card
    ix) credit card
    x) birth certificate
    xi) marriage certificate.

I've never been asked to show ID with a polling card either, but that's not to say you can't be asked.

I have been asked for ID before, so it's no harm to have something with you.

You'll probably only be asked for ID if you're on the supplementary register. If you haven't got your card go to checktheregister and make sure you're on the register.

If you're not it's probably too late this time round.
