The WAN ports in a netopia 2247 wireless router were fried following a lightening strike. The router was bought through eircom by a work colleague when he was getting broadband setup back in December.
Just wondering whether this would be covered under warranty?

How do you mean he bought it through Eircom? If he was getting Eircom BB he'd have got it free and it is their property. In any case get him to contact Eircom tech support, tell them the modem is dead and they'll send a new one.
If you're an Eircom BB customer contact them yourself.
Don't mention lightening though or you'll probably get nothing.

Logging in2 it will give you the warranty date under router information on the first page

Wasnt involved in the transaction - so wasnt aware it remains their property. Thought that it had to be bought outright - unlike the regular modem. I'll get him to give them a call..

    That is their regular modem.:)
They only send a USB modem if you get their timed 20 hour package.

Lighting is counted as "An Act of God" so is not covered by warranty or insurance.
Best bet is to say it broken but do not say it was lighting.
It';s a grey area, if their do not ask you do not have to tell......
