Hi, i am going to college next year and want to start djing house party's and 18th's and 21st birthdays back in my hometown aswell.

I am just wondering if this equipment is any good as a starting point:

    Numark CDMIX3: http://www.numark.com/cdmix3 @ €300

    W-Audio PSR 12 Active Speakers: http://www.prosound-dj.com/waudio-active-speakers-pair-p-1438.html

Also what else do i need to complete the setup?. amps, cables, lights, stands? Any recommendations you have i will gladly accept. :D

No. The CDMIX is total junk. You might as well buy 2 units at that price, cos when it breaks down at least you'll have a spare.

+1 on that. Useless piece of gear.

Well you can have good or you can have cheap, never both.

As for prices surely you can do your own homework @ www.thomann.de ;)

Ok, so i had a look around that site but i'm still not actually sure what i need to buy. They offer complete 'dj packages' but they look crap. :D So what should i be looking to get that can control house partys and 18ths/21st birthdays?.

Unless you state your max budget, it's a "how long is a piece of strong question". There's plenty of cheap dual CD players on the market, most will do a grand job for a while. After that everything depends on what you want to spend...

CD players- this is the most cheapest, probably all you would want
    http://www.thomann.de/ie/american_audio_dcdpro310.htm 199 euro

    mixer
    http://www.thomann.de/ie/numark_dm950_2kanal_battlemixer.htm
only has 2 channels and its not the best but again, it would do..... 49 euro

    Speakers
    http://www.thomann.de/ie/mackie_srm_450.htm
Classics they are........498 euro each though. Would last a long long time......400watt.

add another 100 euro or so for cables..stands...other bits and pieces

Thanks for quick reply mate. My budget is flexible from around €1000 to €1500.

Neon Circle's suggestion are decent enough, I'd lump for a slightly better mixer tho, something that will let you rig up ipods and such with ease. Any 4ch mixer would do tbh.

Mackie SRM450's are the industry standard, just dont crank them or they sound horrible.

Ok thanks guys. How do i go about using a laptop mainly and have the cd's as a backup?. I have a laptop already so thats excluded from my budget. Any lighting tips?

If you get a mixer with more inputs you can get a USB soundcard and rig it up like that

Lighting can be tricky- I've learned the hard way about thomann's own brand lighting...its very hit and miss.....have had to send back stuff alot. LED lights are the latest gadget...would recommend them over conventional lights for many reasons...

However if possible buy a decent brand.....eg Martin (Even though they are very expensive)

+1 on Martin. They pay for themselves ten times over.

Ok is there any chance you could recommend one of these? What kind of cables are used to hook up the sound card and the mixer? Are they all red/white cables until the amp then they are thick cable and ran to the speakers? Sorry about all the questions but i'm trying to suss it out. :p

    One of the cheaper ones

    http://www.thomann.de/ie/edirol_ua1ex.htm

RCA into the mixer...........probably either jack or XLR from mixer to amp......speakon from amp to speakers
