Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Spiral Architect anyone?

I know there are a couple of people here who listen to them, myself included. They've sadly only recorded one album, back in 2000.

    Thoughts?

Aye, I have A Skeptic's Universe and to say the least, there's more than an air of Cynic in their sound. Right down to that very specific Bass sound. Quality musicians. :)

I know about them for about 3 or 4 years. Very good album indeed.

I can't stand that nasal, jaco-y bass tone!!! Otherwise good though. :)

There's a lot more Watchtower to their sound than Cynic.

For those who don't have it pick up Control And Reisistance by Watchtower and hear where Spiral Architect nicked all their ideas... including the bass tone :p

Watchtower were really one of the early pioneers of super technical Metal and, good and all as the Spiral Architect album is, it just makes me put on Watchtower instead. Energetic Dsiassembly was good but Control And Resistance is the benchmark. Amazing to think Control And Resistance will be 20 years old next year. I bought it on tape twice back in the day, wore one out, and then finally bought it on CD a few years back.

Without that CD there'd be no Spiral Architect and, possibly, no Cynic or Atheist either (Atheist asked Doug Keyser to play on Unquestionable Presence, he was Roger Patterson's favourite bassist).

Yep, you're right about Control and Resistance, and the blatant misappropriation of their sound, it's very distinctive.
