Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

A dept here has hard copies of all there SOP's but no soft copies. They can be scanned in no problem, the problem is they need to be amended. The documents contain bith text and images.

I have tried SimpleOCR but this does not seem to like the images. I have also tried Adobe but that see's it as an image, which it is.

Does any one know of software that will allow us to amend these documents?

Thanks in advanced for any suggestion.

I don't know 100% but I would be 99% sure this will definitely not be possible. All a scanner does is take an image. The only way to amend that would be with image editing software such as Photoshop. I don't believe there is any technology that could convert the text from the image in to editable text, if I am following you properly and this is what you are hoping for.

Depending on what platforms you have access to, there are any number of open source OCR systems, which should do what you want.

Bear in mind, if you scan to an image, you won't be able to manipulate the image easily ... as you've found out. You need to scan to text, normally PDF ... which can then be edited.

I guess OCR that generates output in PDF format will allow you handle both text & images ... but I can't promise.

    Try this one ... it's free ... http://softi.co.uk/freeocr.htm

Google are or were involved with this ... supporting/developing a web based OCR platform ... no idea where that's at now.

    Good luck :)

what formats does the scanner give ?
    you could start with TIFF

office 2003 and later have OCR built in microsoft document imaging - print the files to the mdi printer

if all else fails you can use pdfcreator on sourcefourge to generate TIF's , set it to auto save the file name and then print the scan's to it and then OCR with something that reads TIF's
