Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    hi all,

My mums laptop (a dell inspiron 6400) at home has just died a few days ago, I couldnt find out what was wrong so my dad brought it into the IT dept. at work, they said its most likely the motherboard that is dead.

What Im planning to do now is salvage as much as I can. The hdd is going into my desktop. I was wondering if it is possible to take the 2 gigs of ram from the inspiron 6400 and put them into my xps (specs bellow) to make a total of 4 gigs. I think theyre the same ram modules, but a second opinon is needed.

also, I want to turn the monitor into one of those picture frame dealies, and good guides anyone know of?

    cheers lads

(also, if a mod feels this is better to tweeking or modding, or building and upgrading, please move it)

Your laptop probably only has 2 Dimm slots (I'd be very surprised if it had any more) and it would more than likely have a 1GB stick in each slot. If that's the case then you can't put the ram into the xps.

best thing to do with it is stick it up on adverts as faulty you will get a few quid for it it's not worth makeing a picture frame with the screen it is not as easy as you might think

And ya ram will be no use for the xps as it will only have to dim slot's

Ps how much would you want for the laptop as is
