Similar thread just started on bmw-driver.net, thought it could be fun here.

Realistically, what will your next car be?

Me, currently i have an e46 m3, that i WILL keep for longer than 9 months this time, hopefully 18 mths or so.

    Then i hope to be in a position to look at the e92 m3 (or if not the 335i), audi s5 , a 993/996 911 or a porka cayman S. :)

we'll see what the future holds!

If (and that's a semi big if) the current yoke lasts as long as I hope it will, the next car will probably be a used VW UP or Opel Econoflex or something of that ilk; green, cheap and proven (hopefully)

have an A31.9tdi which i love, so might hang on till the new A3 comes out, or if business is good, look at the new TT diesel when it arrives, or A5.

If I knew the answer to this question I could sleep at night !

I have been looking at everything from a 911 to a Touareg - generally by the time I get home I am happy enough with my own to keep it.

Alfa 159 or Jag XKR from around '96/'97 :)

It would be a similar dilema for me. I don't know if I want to buy a nice cheap Range Rover from UK, a recent enough x5, an e46 M3 soft top, a 911, or a 535d. Then I'm thinking of a classic car.... not sure what yet though.
They are all completely at odds with each other. The Range Rover in question is in the sub 10k bracket, others are in the 40k-€45k area. I like the idea of cheap luxury that the Range Rover will bring (OK I'll pay at the pumps especially if it's the 4.0L petrol!).

This is a question that crosses my mind every other hour too! I currently have a MKV GTI and I struggle to think of a car in it's price range that I'd happily swap for right now. Perhaps a DSG version, or perhaps I'll wait and see what the MK6 is like. Or maybe the new upcoming Scirocco will take my fancy.

Or maybe something completely different... An equivalent of what I have in an Audi / BM costs thousands more! But with the VRT system changing things dramatically, I think there will be a lot more affordable choices.

to be fair theres loads of cars in the mkiv gti price range that offer better performance handling comfort etc, just not new aswell!

i was looking at one maybe a year old or so but bought a 02 m3 instead :)

Cyrus - you're forever taking threads from our beloved site!! ;)

As mentioned on the other forum...ideally I'd change to a M5....realistically, until the Greens are turfed out, a 530d and an E30 325 Sport (hard to find a clean one!)

I agree completely - what I meant was, new cars in that price bracket, its pretty difficult to get a car to beat the GTI... perhaps I'll have to go back a couple of years :)

Next motor will be an e60 M5 (at least thats what I keep telling myself). Between now and then possibly some DMS magic on the 535d

I currently have a corsa OPC and if had to make a choice right now i think i'd be looking for the latest Civic Type R. That said, as somebody pointed out earlier the new VRT changes bring a lot of different cars into range!
This is the longest i've ever gone without window shopping for the next motor, i'm usually on carzone almost nightly for over a year 5-6 months after changing...:o

I have a 2000 1.8 Diesel focus with 130k on the clock. Have it about a year now. Cost me round 5k.
NCT due soon, so long as it passes that I'll keep it for at least another 2 years possibly more.
After that I'll get a 2003-2005 Focus, probably another 1.8 tdi or possibly a 1.6 zetec for around 5k or less.

An e36 BMW 318is if I can find a nice one by then.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,193 ✭✭✭Andrewf20

For me, id like a E46 330d, but i dont know if Im prepared for the road tax bill, so a mark 2 MX5 1.8 would probably be top of my list. Non evo E36 M3's are around 10k and are attractive, but with the traffic and roads we have I see little point in having so much power and bills.

    Well I'm looking right now.

    Tomorrow I test drive the pre-facelift Audi A3 2.0 TDi (140bhp) SE.

    I'm still seriously considering:

    Seat Leon 2.0 TDi Stylance
    Hyundai i30 2.0 CRD Premium
    Ford Focus 2.0i TDCi Zetec
    Kia Cee'd Hatchback 2.0 CRDi Sport 5dr

The Ford Focus and Kia Cee'd are outsiders.
Once I test drive the Hyundai and Seat, I'll know :)

Its definitly either an Evo 7/8 or e46 m3,although id love an FD2 Saloon type R,but for the price tag on them at the minute it's going to definitly be between the first two

hopefully soon when i find a good cheap one (talking about 99-01 max as they can get dumb expensive after that year for some reason).
