I think I'm right in saying that 1800 (roughly) were put through from the IST to the AC. Do we know how many they plan to cut that down to with these AC results? Do we know a rough recruitment number for this campaign?

Last time, anyone below 60% got cut. Numbers after the ac results were released were approx 700 to progress. Further numbers lost through vetting and a larger % failed at PCA stage.

    Thank you :)

So roughly more than half of the existing pool will be cut with tomorrows results. That's good to know. Does the PCA really have that big of a fail rate?? Is it very difficult?

they make you climb mount Everest in record time. so whoever goes first gets it marginally easier.

I did it in 13 minutes bottom to top. was chuffed.....;)

    Oh hi there iamtalkingthroughmyarse :p

Is that really all they ask you to do?? That seems reasonable and straight forward; can't imagine why so many would fail that

    lol. alright buddy.

video of pca is on the psni website.

in terms of fitness standards, considering the 3 laps need to be completed in just under 4 minutes or so, I would focus on hitting cardio hard but short.

i.e. hill sprints, or setting yourself a mile distance and trying to run it as hard as possible. if you can make up a similar circuit in your gym then even better.

All I did was several laps around my block of hard running after each gym work out. when it came to pca, I took the course at a steady pace (purely for fear of getting any penalties) and passed with a decent bit to spare.

push and pull immediately after the pca is hardest as you are out of breath and its 20 seconds maximum effort.

  • Registered Users Posts: 72 ✭✭ItWasntMe88

    iamnowveryhelpful...thanks fella :)

I've watched the video to be fair but didn't consider it that difficult. I suppose when you're under pressure and cautious of making mistakes it's a whole different story. I'm fairly fit so it would be a matter of going a wee bit harder at the cardio than usual. Anyway, completely irrelevant to me at the moment. Will think more about it should I be luck enough to pass the AC tomorrow.

I thought they had done away with the push/pull though?

its not actually part of the pca anymore. but you still have to do it immediately after the 3 laps.

guess they just want a reference score really.

it was mistakes and clipping cones etc. had me worried. I could have went harder from the get go than I did but reigned it in so I was actually concentrating on each obstacle.

if you are fit enough to play 5-a-side football and be running about the entire time you'll be just fine mate ;)

Aaahh I keep checking this and my emails in the hope someone has heard something...im going to be a nervous wreck tomorrow.

A wise man once said "Overthinking ruins you. Ruins the situation, twists things around, makes you worry and makes everything much worse than it actually is".

Trying to keep this in mind today and tonight, good luck to all tomorrow! Hopefully good news for all!
I think the idea as you said was to gather as much information as possible, but also analyse it and make suggestions for further action.
I'm probably wrong as my AC was that long ago I can barely remember it.

Whenever I start to doubt how I performed I always remind myself that they aren't looking for fully trained constables but those who show promise of becoming one. I think if you were professional, inquisitive and showed a logical approach in what you said/did you'll be grand.

Goodluck everyone, not long to go now.

    Went back and checked.

The day we were waiting for C1 results we got an email saying we wouldn't get them for another four weeks (imagine our joy). We then got them on the second amended date.

C2 results were due on the 19th December and they actually arrived on the 16th (forgot about that)

    Thanks for checking.

I remember the feeling in C1 when we got that delay email, I really hope it doesn't happen again.

It's looking like tomorrow then. I'm off so it will be a day of constant email refreshing lol.

I'm must try and not go on here before results come through. Nothing worse than others getting their pass emails and your sitting with no news :(

Hello all! Been lurking for a good while and just joined!:) Just for clarification, the results tomorrow (all being well) won't tell us our score, just a pass/fail...is that right?

Hi there! I'm not 100% sure if I'm honest because this is my first time doing the AC but I'm lead to believe we will be told how we performed in each section and given an overall score (percentage). I think we have to score higher than 60% to be considered a pass.

Well I have been lurking around here for a while. I was on this forum when it started basically.
I actually joined the psni eight years ago.....thereabouts.
Transferred to a mainland force a few years back and am now trying to get in as they do not have the legal framework to accept transferees.

    Anyway.

Ended up going through the normal process. As much as I was hoping my experience would help me it really didn't.

I found it fairly difficult and had no clue when I came out. When I did it a long time ago the role plays were nothing to do with policing.

I just wanted to wish everyone good luck tomorrow. Having been there its a great career despite the negativity it gets. I left for personal reasons, nothing to do with the force.

Dying to get back so if you do manage to get in don't leave!!!!

    Hi mate!

Did you do your AC towards the end of January by any chance? I met an existing police officer across the pond looking to get back into the PSNI at mine!

  • Registered Users Posts: 92 ✭✭yet another lurker

    No

Obviously cannot be specific but I did mine mid February. Everyone seemed pretty reasonable. When I did it the first time there were a few chavs around. No offence but I think you know what I mean.
Two months ago but seems like an age now!

Yeah you get an overall percentage which has an alphabetical grade attached to a range of percentages (just for talks sake 60-70 would be a B, but obviously the higher B you score the sooner you should progress.)

You do get a break down of each section which is handy if you don't get a pass this time but apply in the next campaign, so you know what needs worked on.

I know it was 60% in campaign 1 and pretty sure the same for C2, but I think it depends on how everyone scores i.e. if the majority of candidates score lower the pass mark will be lower....but don't quote me on that.

I do have to say Johannes, you've been a fountain of knowledge throughout the thread. All info greatly appreciated from a first timer!

Haha I wouldn't go as far as a fountain.

I went through the process in campaign 1 so anything I say might be a little outdated, I don't know if there were any changes made in C2 but most of the questions that have been asked I had myself in 2013.

The whole recruitment process is long and far from transparent for the obvious security reasons, but any small amount of info that is allowed to be posted and talking to others in the same situation helps with the agonising wait. It doesn't get any easier with each stage you pass either (well for me at least).

In my opinion the AC is the hardest part, it's out of the way now and if we pass the only other stages we can affect are the PCA and completing online learning (if/when received). Vetting, Medical and SMT (as long as we behave ourselves) are out of our hands.

It will all be worth it in the end.

I specifically stayed up until 4am as 1) I'm not in until 1700 today
And more so that I would definitely lie in thinking by the time I got up the results would be in. Turns out I got up at 0700 anyway!!!!
