Yeah it's unfair, but there's a reson for it and it won't be forever.... what gets me is what about the polish/lithuanian/black/asian communities, no push for an increase in numbers there...... are they not important enough to represent their minority backgrounds?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 660 ✭✭✭punchestown

Dont worry PEGGYSUE, theres a place in the PSNI for the cap lock minority so you should be ok!

HA HA! I take it you were the class clown at school then! Are jokers a minority too?:D

How suprised was I when I came back from a weekend away there to find out the merit's were out.... I'd totally forgotten about it and wasnt back in time to ring up last night so i'd a slightly uneasy sleep lets say!

Anyway, phoned them up today, and got straight through with no line holding (thankfully enough) Pleased with my score, between 250 and 300 from non rc background so hopefully ill be in with a shout.

I havent recieved any med date yet and asked the girl on the phone who said they'd just not got down to me yet which was a bit of a relief to be honest because it was late june when I sent back my vetting forms!

So congrats to all who have got good scores, get ready for another agonising wait...Ill be doing so myself! As for anyone who hasn't done as well as expected, im sorry to hear that, i was indeed bracing myself for the worst today.

Well done william , good score :) yeah, im waiting on med date too after sending my vetting back in late June. When I asked on the phone she siad nothing had been scheduled, may get used to all this waiting:)

thanks squirrel, i've just been reading your posts amongst others and its good to see that a few people are in the same boat as me on the whole no med date yet.
Congrats on your score, rather impressive to say the least! Hopefully the vetting and meds go well for you and youll be a shoe in the door!
As for myself im just hoping my score is good enough before I even worry about how medicals and vetting go. If I dont get in this time it'll be a case of third time lucky perhaps! lol

Has anybody recieved a letter saying that they have been given a merit no according to the consensia list & which also says that a medical & vetting may follow?

It also says not to contact the office as it slows the process of administration down & that this process takes a long time?

    Anybody? Anybody at all? Help!

What does this mean? I know they were sending dear johns out & i was owndering if any others recieved a similar letter to mine? Anybody?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 298 ✭✭PEGGYSUE'S MAMA

My letter says 'As you are aware, your name has been included in a merit list, which has been provided to us by Consensia.'

did anyone else think there was something odd about the 'as you know' bit?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 298 ✭✭PEGGYSUE'S MAMA

    Yeah,

I reckon they are well hacked off at all the phone calls enquiring about x, y & z and have had to send these letters out en masse to ease the pressure on their staff... suppose we have to remember that there are more serving officers out there needing human resources staff than there are potential new recruits... and I am sure that just like everywhere else with an office, they are "short staffed"!

it does seem like they have a section for recruitment though. so it would only be a select team getting pestered!

They probably know by the names who rang to find out their score. They probably mark off who rang, maybe those who didnt ring had their score included in the letter. I thought it was worded a bit cheekily. I also found the staff from recruitment to be a bit cheeky too. Oh well, i have my merit score so hopefully I wont be 'Bothering' them again!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

They should send everyone a letter telling them their position on their merit list, then no one would call.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 254 ✭✭inspector71

The consensia people told us at our AC that the PSNI would have the merit numbers by the end of september and we would be able to get it from them then.

If they weren't such a bunch of keep me out of the loop swines, maybe i wouldn't have had to phone them!!

    and also,
the letters we're all receiving at the minute look like they'r mail merge kinda things, would it have been that difficult for them to have included everyones merit numbers on the letters and maybe a bit of extra information?
If you ask me, the recruitment branch is it's own worst enemy!

    Okay, I'm finished ranting now!

il second that, what do they expect us to do when no one really knows where they stand at any stage of the recruitment!

Duh, why would anything in this whole process be designed to make life easier for any of us! Think about it, any of us who are successful are in for 25 years (god willing!) up against all of this beaucracy and redtape!

I bet the PSNI staff wish Consensia was still dealing with all of this nonsense!:D

I got the ''be patient letter today to guys!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 524 ✭✭✭Penis Eye

i feel like i have been dumped. i got the letter today.

dont call me ill call you!! oh well does anyone want to play a game wit me?

its called the waiting game. all you have to do is apply for campaign 15.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 217 ✭✭Louisiana 1927

:mad:That letter was extremely discourteous to say the least. If the process was more transparent & structured & if they informed people clearly on the progress of their application, instead of being so secretive about things (which has been my experience when i have called) then everybody wouldn't be calling so much.

I mean seriously, when you call up, having someone tell you how many times you have called is completely unnesscary. I'm quite sure that i, as i am of all others within the process, are more than capable of remembering when we called & what we were told. If i'm calling it's because i want to know exactly what's happening with my application, because based on what little information i have recieved to date i am not confident that i am aware of that. I am not calling to be told how many times i have called to date!

Despite this, i am very much aware of how hard the peeps in rec branch are working & of the considerable pressure which they must be under, however it seems as if the process is flawed somewhat.

There's so much uncertainty within the process. The first two stages are fine, nice & transparent, everyone knows what happens & everyone is happy but because when the process is handed over to the PSNI everything goes quiet then peeps get anxious, start calling & rumours start circulating.
The more we call the more peeved off they get, however, i have to say having called rec on a number of occassions i have been talked in a downright rude & unprofessional manner & that's the only way to describe my experience of my contact with them.

I'm not being unfair, nor am i overreacting. I understand they are under a lot of pressure, but if they feel the need to send out letters telling everyone to LEAVE US ALONE then surely they themselves must see that the process is unclear, unfair to both applicants & those working in recruuitment branch & consequently, therefore flawed to a degree.

Other police forces have a completely transparent & open recruitment process, keeping candidates updated re their application & communicating with them in a civil manner when they are contacted, unfortunately the same cannot be said for the PSNI's process or on occassion ,some of their staff.

It's not possible for anybody to argue that the recruitment process for the PSNI is open & transparent. Consequently, it's my belief, & i know many other folks belief that as a result of this the process lacks accountability.

One question: Why isn't the process completely transparent?

It's all good & well to have nice chit chat about how great the PSNI is & how we would all love to be police officers, but ultimately as a large governmental organisation, as many, many more like it have, it has many flaws, & the recruitment process is just one of then that has some major issues that need addressing.

    Discuss.

You took the words from my mouth, thief! When did you start typing that post, yesterday?

I dunno, I mean when I got the letter saying I passed the A/C it said not to expect to hear from the PSNI 'til September, and that's when I heard from them, so it wasn't particularly leaving me in the dark. If they were able to tell you exactly how far they had progressed with the vetting when you phoned then a lot of people would be calling them every week, and they'd need to borrow the Halifax call centre to deal with the number of enquiries!

He he he !!! NO, that was brewing all evening, sitting thinking about that letter!!

I mean i'm not being unfair, i believe that those are all valid critiscims of the process.

surely it wouldnt be to hard to set up a web site or something where people can log in using there uid number and check the status of their application. kinda similiar to when u order something off the internet you can track your order with your order number!!

vote me in as the head of psni recruitment.

That they are, that they are. But it's not external appointments fault because they are only processing applications as they have been told. It's the recruitment policy that needs serious attention.

If only it was as simple as that.... anyone who works in the public sector knows words like "simple" "straightforward" "transparency" "equality" etc are bandied about big time but when it comes to the crunch all big organisations are the same.... the left hand has no clue what the right is doing.... so many big chiefs sitting on their bums in big leather chairs counting up their pension and planning their next exotic golfing break, then having meetings to organise meetings to discuss how things should be done! Meanwhile the many put upon indians (ie the staff in external appointments) get paid sh** wages to shoulder all the crap....can you tell I love my job at the minute!

    What? Okay, enough.

Ha, ha wouldn't i be a rich lassie with all the info you'd all want from me if I did work there....

Nah I just feel sorry for the poor buggers answering endless calls about the same thing! Am sure they want an easier system as much as we all do.
I am a public sector worker, therefore I am under no illusions that the police force will be run anymore efficiently than say the NHS or the civil service are!

Okay so when they sent out those letters, don't you think they would have the common sense to give out as much information as possible?
Such as peoples current merit numbers?
They have certain information that they can give out and they just refused to do so.

Good point, well made. Can't argue with that.

Phoned up today and found out I was 320-340 (non RC), which is absolutely no help putting my mind at ease! :D
Ah well, just have to wait for the vetting now which, as I lived in Spain for a year, should be finished somewhere round about the turn of the century.

Going by the results of previous campaigns, an RC with that kind of merit score stands a very good chance indeed, but I understand your reluctance to get carried away. Although I would guess that you'd you'll get the call if you pass both the vetting and medical.

Does anyone know if you receive a letter to say that your vetting is complete?
I got a letter on Saturday morning saying I had passed my medical, so just waiting now on vetting and drugs test results. Eek.

PYG passed her vetting, but didn't receive a letter. She only found out because she rang recruitment to ask. Probably not a good idea to call them at the moment though. Particularly in light of last weeks letters.

Congrats on the medical pass. I'm still waiting on the results of the drugs test too. Do we only get notified about the results of this if it's a fail?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 127 ✭✭bobbin88

I'm pretty sure we only get notified if we have failed the drugs test. It's not something to write out about if someone hoping to get into the PSNI passes a drugs test!
I'm sure Seapark would be notified of the results quite quickly, I doubt they would delcare someone medically fit, who has failed the drugs test.
