What does everyone think of people receiving medicals at this stage of the campaign. Will there still be a certain amount of people getting called for medicals who will end up being wastage? Or at this stage would they only be calling those they need to fill spaces . And also when you receive a MHQ do you make an appointment with your doctor to get it filled in or just leave it in to the receptionist to pass on?

    Thank you

I would guess that there will probably be a quiet period for a while...they'll have called a certain amount of people for medical and from the amount that have passed there will be enough to fill up the intakes for the next 'x' number of months. Perhaps then, as they run out of people there will be a second round call for medicals. This would also give people who failed a chance to get their appeals in to be assessed.

This, however, is just a guess. The real answer to your question is that only Jesus really knows (and he's a bit confused, just like the rest of us)

surf you should never send recorded delivery to a po box as if there is no one there to sign for it, it will be sent back to you. you really need to find out if they recieved it asap.
I sent mine recorded delivery and it got there next day with a electronic signature?

    Hey,

I suppose you could tell more depending on your merit score...although there still is an intake in December!!

Have you called regarding your vetting?

Don't get too down hearted about your medical being so late....I only got my call 2 weeks before my SRN to say i was in, so they do leave things late.

Personally i made an appointment with my Dr to ensure that i got all the relevant documentation from him (as i've had a few hospital visits due to rugby :)), and anything i said he just printed it off. Nothing worse than gettin it back to find something has not been provided!

I only got vetting a little while ago - posted it off last Monday but the girl I spoke to today said it was being processed (not that I expected it to be done you understand but it was nice to hear it wasn't just sitting there waiting to be processed).

Thanks for the info re the medical. I have made an appointment with my doc but the only one I could get was the Friday before my med (which is on the Monday ) so do you think I should leave the form in for her a few days before and then go to the appointment to make sure she's done it and check it over?

    MBC x

Definately. My doc had to have a few details checked out and held onto my form for about a week before it was ready.

Yea i agree with Carlty! Give them as much time as you can and then there will be no surprises come the medical!

But make sure you double check it when he/she gives it to you...my doctor conveniently "forgot" to put in 2 of my discharge papers giving me the all clear.

Depending on your current status i.e. how many houses you have lived in, bro's/sis's etc. your Vetting could be quick, just keep phoning them and you may get a surprise answer one day :)

Don't stress and good luck for your medical!

One of the bosses at the post office told me that it was ok to send special delivery and there would be someone there to sign for it as the girl at the counter hadn't a clue. I checked online and it said it was delivered. I will call tomorrow to check anyway. cheers.

Also. One of the medical staff today told me that they were on the last few weeks of the medicals and they were down to 2 days a week. 16 per day. they have had about 500 through so far!

Just discovered this site today, it really is informative, I still haven't got a medical letter through yet...!! I was below 340 on the merit list non-rc, just wondering has anyone above me received their medical notification through yet. I had vetting in July but I haven't chased it up yet to see if I was successful of not because it said not to....Appreciate any pointers, thanks, newcommer...

Your doctor put that in? That's a little unlucky. I'm pretty sure a lot of doctor's would have let it be.

I don't think you have much to worry about. The OH&W doctor will most certainly quiz you on it. I think you may need to give him an adequate reason why you felt stressed. I don't think they could possibly fail you for a 2 week absence having said that, but still, they are extremely strict on mental health. They failed me for having anxiety symptoms related to a bowel condition that no longer exists!! It's costing me over £400 for a private psychiatric report and even that's not a guarantee of success on appeal.

Sorry, I digressed into my own problems there lol. You should be fine.
Thanks for that, fingers crossed I have passed my vetting so am just praying to get through the medical. Good luck with your appeal!

Oh well thats goodnight for me then for this time round. Close but no cigar as the saying goes..... have gone from being an optimist to a pragmatist (better than being a wee bit pessimistic) I would really like to get my "dear peggysue's mama..." letter sooner rather than later so I can just get on with my life and enjoy my lovely holiday after xmas without wondering what post has hit the doormat every single day.

Am going to try and wean myself off this wee place, god am goin to have to get back to working at work now! So good luck to y'all heading for the hotel, enjoy and I hope you all do very well, after all this you deserve all the luck and success in the world! And to everyone else, see you next year!!!!!! :pac::pac::pac:

:confused:Who knows, I have spoken to a guy who passed the medical and he was off work with debility/stress for 3 months. I have also heard of a girl who failed as she had post natal depression (she appealed it and is now a sergeant!!) Go Girl! I think if there is an underlying cause for concern it is a big no! I am so uptight about my medical as it the one thing we have no real control over! I am not sure if that helps at all.

I done my med about two weeks ago and the guy who drug tested me said that over a 6-week period 480 meds will be done at 16 per day over the 5 working days of each week.

P.s apparently I am the youngest to do the med :D

They seemed a bit shocked when I told them I was only 17 doing the IST lol!

The OH&W doctors are basically GPs. The only information they have to go on is the information you give them in the MHQ, and whatever your doctor has added. Generally, where mental health is concerned (non-trivial periods of anxiety or depresison that required medication or consultation) this isn't enough for them to pass you. What you need, either first time around or on appeal, is a report from someone who specialises in the field of mental health (a psychiatrist or CPN) to verify that you are sound of mind and capable of carrying out the role and that it is safe to allow you access to firearms. The OH&W doctors are not prepared (or qualified?) to make such a decision.

There are liability and accountability issues here also. Where someone has suffered some anxiety or depression in the past, the general public would expect that they are only allowed entry into the police force after assessment by a mental health specialist who can verify that the issues they had are no longer pertinent.

Be aware however, getting a psychiatric report its damn expensive. Your talking £400 for a session (although one session is all thats required).

Just all that talk there about the number of people doing the medicals, when I was doing mine a couple of weeks ago the guy who was scalping me  told me that they were taking 16 a day but on average about 3 people per day weren't turning up for them. I was there around lunch time and he told me already 1 person hadnt turned up that day! So it's all good for us!!! :D

I'm in for the waiting game now, havn't rang up to see if I've passed my vetting but I passed my medical. I'm too scared to ring recruitment!

I know it says that they will not change medical dates, but there may be exceptions to that rule. Give them a call. Sometimes it pays to chance your arm a little.

Is there any way you can avoid being away on that date? It'd be a real shame to have gone this far in the process and to drop out because of this.

Just thought I would share my phone call to recruitment with you all..........

Well I rang them this morning to see if I was going to receive a medical date in the near future. After alot of clicking and asking my name, UID and address she eventually told me she couldnt tell me anything regarding a medical but that my vetting was finished and what my merit score is, both of which I already knew. She was nice about it all, one of the more pleasant ones. She recommended that I ring OHW about my query. Not sure if I will.

Anyway thats enough about my morning.

    LOL PYG
