Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I wondered about the merit placing Q. Because an training officer asked me if my merit placing was the general merit placing or the merit placing of my background pool.. The latter of which i didnt know existed...

hey maura did u ring up to find out "both" ur merit places then?

Vivid?! The comment looks totally random and after reading it, even I think I'm some kind of pervert. Ah well. I guess you had to be there.

Recruitment possibly keep some kind of 'religious background' merit list for their own use, but there's only one official merit list.

    Frequently asked questions

Taken from OHW and summarised to answer some questions people always asked on the old thread

1.What information do I need to supply for the medical assessment?

You must complete your medical history questionaire, both carefully and honestly (this is sent out along with your medical date)

It has prompt or feeder questions which help you to give the detail needed in your answers.

Your GP who has access to your medical records needs to verify your answers and provide further information if required.

    Additional information may include;
    1. Additional letters from your GP about your condition
    2. Letters or reports from medical specialists you might have attended
    3. Letters or reports from other practitioners such as physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, and community psychiatric nurses can all be of relevance to your assessment.

    2. What Happens if I arrive at my medical appointment with an incomplete medical history questionnaire?

It is your responsibilty to ensure your MHQ is completed. This must be undertaken before you arrive at your assessment and have been signed and verified by your GP.

IF IT IS DEEMED INCOMPLETE YOU WILL FORFEIT YOUR APPOINTMENT AND INCLUSION IN THE CURRENT RECRUITMENT CAMPAIGN

3.What Will the medical consist of?

A hearing test, eye sight test, BMI measurement,Lung capacity, blood pressure measurement, heart rate, and some movements to test flexibilty of all the joints including the knee and balance. Hands will also we looked at for skin problems.

The assessor will also have a conversation with you about additional information you provided and you will be expected to talk about the condition to him/her.

    4. How do I know what additional information to provide?

If you have a history of a medical condition you should expand on your answer in the MHQ, if you have had to have contact with your GP or other specialists, this is when additional medical information is very important.
Discuss it when your GP and to ensure you have all the necessary letters or reports.

    5. How long will my assessment take?

Approximately one hour. If you are late you will not be assessed.

    6. Will I be told the result on the day?

No. The medical adviser undertaking your assessment are all fully qualified professionals, however they are not in a position to tell you your outcome.

Occupational health and welfare will write to you directly with the result.

note; A significant number of people need repeat urine or blood pressure measurements taken by their GP. If this happens you will be provided a letter explaining this to your GP. You should then have these repeated and sent back to OHW by you.

All you need to know suzysysso;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 399 ✭✭MustBeCrazy

Well I got my MHQ and invite to medical. I was starting to think I wasn't going to get it after all and thought they'd suspended the campaign already

The medical is in just under 2 weeks time, so I'll have to get it filled in and left into my GP asap.

Anyone else received a medical date recently?

Yes, but they give you a nice wee blanket to cover up with. The doctors office is also a wee bit chilly!

Ohhhhhhh the ol' hold everything in pants!

Phew, I wasn't sure what to expect then...

Yeah I'm thinking that they might be a safer choice than a weekend, sat night thong ya know!

Although tbh I've been to my medical and imo its far more dangerous for a guy with loose fitting boxers...

So, on reflection, I'm thinking that since there is unlikely to be any removal with teeth and modesty might be the order of the day since a Darcy-a-like is unlikely to be the doctor the 'Bridget Jones' knickers might be in order! But I'm a guy... wot do i know :P:D;)

I am trying to fill in this flippin' form and there are so many...do I need to put that in? And loads of, well that was 20 years ago and I can't remember who treated it or how or what they diagnosed it as (knee pain) as I was a child at the time. What to do, what to do....

And where do I mention short sightedness? Is it part of the question on visual defects?

And I had a chest infection once requiring antibiotics, do I put that in the question about chest pain, angina, heart disease or breathlessness????

And I *think* I may have had vertigo once (but not sure if the doc just said it *could* be that, so do I put that in???

    Oh help!

    MBC x

P.S. How will they know if I ever had vertigo (for example) if I don't put it on the form? Do they get my medical records? Should I get my medical records??

    Thanks

Your GP will go through your form and compare your answers with your medical records. He will add pertinent notes to the ones that you need to provide further info for.

My opinion is that if it is in your notes I would probably mention it. But to save you time and hastle, if you do mention it, make absolutely certain that the doctor is very clear in his notes that whatever it was wrong is fully better and not going to get in the way of your job as a police person as far as he can comment :)

You don't need to put down every last thing you went to the doctor about. You only need to put in the essentials i.e broken bones etc

Trust me you'll make it sooo much easier for yourself if you just put down the serious stuff you seen your doctor about. . if you didn't go to the doctor then dont mention it on the form. .

Anyway your GP will check over it and he/she will have to verify the whole thing with a big stamp :D

I only had to answer the broken bone question so I was lucky enough
