    That's wierd & worrying chance:confused:. You did your ac same day as me, 9th June, i was hoping i wouldnt hear anything coz of c14.

    You should phone ext appointments & see what the craic is.

    very strange aint it!

    will give them a call later today and see what the deal is......IF they tell me that is!

    anyone know what number i should call and who to ask for about this??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 57 ✭✭Chance?

    Chance- I think you should give them a wee call and tell them you just had your medical 2 months ago for C14, they will probably say you will have to do it again. Ringing could shed some light on a possible intake for you (and me and lou and bc and PSM etc etc etc).

    will do pyg.

    will try and get some kind of insight into our chances for c14 too, but you know what they're like, will probably be giving nothing away! :(

    It all depends if you and the doctor declare it on you medical form. If he/she has it on your medical records then it will have to be declared. If not then no one need know.

    Thanks PYG and Louisiana - feel much better now that's off my chest - Ill just go to the docs on Thursday and tell him the truth and take whatever comes to me. I was posting from my mobile this morning hence the double post, god knows why my phone does that.

    The medical's not far away now - in fact its like 3 days before my wedding so the blood pressure will be up anyway!! - if the results take only 2 weeks or thereabouts then I'll be on honeymoon when they arrive! I might get a mate to periodically check the post while I'm away and open any letters...

    That might've been me, I read it, although I'm thinking that it may just be the old 'pee in a cup' test rather than a hair sample, as no one has mentioned having to keep your hair a certain length. Here's the info I found, taken from
    http://www.psni.police.uk/policy_directive_1108_substance_misuse.pdf
    Drug testing will be undertaken on the following groups:
    (i) All new appointments to the PSNI of both police officers and police staff on or after 1 September 2008 will be subject to drugs testing. Refusal to undergo a drug test will negate any offer of employment;
    (ii) Internal appointments to some specialist roles on or after 1 September 2008 will be subject to drugs testing;
    (iii) Student officers will be subject to testing during their initial training period;
    (iv) Probationer Constables will be tested at least once during probation;
    (v) All police officers will be subject to random testing. A maximum of 20% of police officers will be randomly tested on an annual basis. This may result in some individuals being tested more than once in a 12- month period;
    (vi) Police staff in roles that are designated as safety and/or security critical (Appendix ‘A’) will also be subject to random testing;
    (vii) ‘With Cause’ drug testing will be introduced. There are two categories of ‘with cause’. These are ‘with cause’ intelligence led and ‘with cause’ observed impairment. In either instance for ‘cause’ to be established, the test of ‘reasonable suspicion’ must be satisfied. Appendix ‘A’ details those who will be subject to ‘with cause’ testing;
    (viii) Drug testing may be introduced as part of investigative protocols for incidents involving police officers and police staff that would be subject to investigation by the PONI;
    (ix) Those who have entered into a rehabilitation contract will be subject to regular drug testing.

    I hope it isn't a hair test, I'm fairly certain I don't have any hair on my body that's more than 3 cm long! :eek:

    AFAIK it is a hair test. I know someone who has been randomly tested. And trust me it is random. Any hour, day or night.... Sorry!:eek:

    Aw crapola, looks like my hair is gonna have to grow then, my body hair seems to get tired and give up at about 1cm long. It's lacking stamina. My hair sucks when it gets long, if I suffer emotional trauma from post-shower fluffy head I'm suing! :mad:

    Nice one PSM;)

    I'm figuring no news is good news, though as each day passes that motto grows weaker & weaker!!!

    The wee man said within two weeks the day of the med. I phoned the number for the substance misuse dept in the med pack & the guy i spoke to said that if everything is ok we don't hearanything but i know that'snot the case, what is going on:confused::confused:.

    Guess it'snot sobad asnoneof us have heard owt right??? :confused:

    OK Ive passed the IST and the AC now the next 2 stages, my first question is this what does the flexibility part entail on the medical? I'm as stiff as a board and had better get stretching but need to know what is going to be asked of me. Any info would be greatly appreciated

    Hi there

    Congrats on passing the a/c and good luck with the not too distant arrival :)

    As for the medical, the flexibility part is not too strenuous - just really showing you can bend to touch your toes without any pain etc and some bending of the knees and a little stretching. Unless you've had any specific injuries or illnesses affecting your joints you should be fine with that part of the medical.

    Thanks MBC I have had problems in the past, I had a prolapsed disc a couple of years ago and needed an epidural to sort it out, its been fine since not giving me any probs, but am very worried I will be knocked back for this as they can afford to be very selective as there are obviously so many quality candidates !
    And regarding the not too distant arrival, Thanks !

    Lynx, if thats gonna be a problem for you, then my surgery last September to remove 2 discs from my spine will definitely be a problem lol! :eek:

    If/when I get my medical date, I already have a letter from my surgeon saying that I am fit and strong enough to endure police training and duties - might be worth doing the same yourself, getting some sort of specialist letter. Nothing to lose.

    That is a good idea I think I'll do that !
    Cheers Jill

    From what I've heard they can be quite strict with back injuries of any sort so I think it would be a good idea to get a letter from your Specialist as if you do fail for this reason and decide to appeal you will have to go down this route anyway. Best to be one step ahead whenever possible as the waiting is long enough without any delays :rolleyes:

    You're very welcome :D And for the hearing test...even if you just think you heard a beep press that button! And drink plenty of water before you go in so you give a nice clean sample :eek::D

    The hearing was weird. All I could hear was my breathing and my heart thumping!
