There's a live track I heard on a knock-off "Elvis Country" CD a few years back that was absolutely amazing. 'I Washed My Hands in Muddy Water'. 'Polk Salad Annie' is another brilliant tune.

He's a bit of a figure of fun at the moment, but if you listen back to his early recordings (up till he went into the Army) he made some great records. I wholeheartedly agree that 'Love Me Tender' is one of the most beautiful bittersweet songs ever recorded.

If you haven't read them, Peter Guralnick's two books on Presley 'Last Train to Memphis' and 'Careless Love' are probably the best music biographies I've ever read.

Yeah 'I Washed My Hands in Muddy Water' is a fantastic song my friend.. from the album "Elvis Country".. another great song on that album is "little cabin home"

I dont have a favorite, the song Hurt from the late 70s on the jungle room album is very powerful and kind of sad, because you will get the felling Elvis knows time is running out

"Long Black Limousine" - absolute classic from 'Elvis in Memphis'. And then there's "Tomorrow is such a long time" written by a very young Robert Zimmerman (apparently his favourite cover of his songs).

Did Phil Coulter write a song for Elvis or is my mate winding me up. I wouldn't think its totally implausible- if this is true, does anyone know the name of the song? I'd like to hear it just out of curiosity.

I can't help falling in love with you is my favourite.

Remember one valentines as a kid, we'd ring random numbers in the phone book and if a woman answered I just started singing that with a elvis voice! Loads of women thinking their husband had sent them a love song by telephone!

Elvis singing Burning Love is one of the greatest songs ever. Ever.

Edit: that 'Stranger..." song above is a belter too, never heard that one before.

He really was on fire those nights.
It was originally supposed to be a Christmas TV Special, but Elvis, backed by director, Steve Binder put his foot down. Thank feck for that!

Been to graceless and memphis twice. Burning love is my favourite elvis song. Just wondering could anyone recommend a good album from Elvis later years. Post 68 cbs. Been listening to "just can't help believing" "my boy" etc and love the tone in his voice from this period

    Graceless??

I Just Can't Help Believing is from 'That's The Way it Is'
    Best available version here
My Boy is from 'Good Times', but if you buy this version of 'Promised Land', you get the best of both albums.

I Just Can't Help Believing is my absolute favourite.

I also like Always on my Mind. I like the Pet Shop Boys version too.

    Kentucky Rain is another one.
