Was on the consensia website looking at detective jobs.
Is it possible to progress into that side of it, special investigation etc?

it says ; Must be a substantive Detective Constable, or have been a Detective Constable in a crime role for 1 year (including Aideship) within the last 7 years (includes service with any other Police Force).
Must demonstrate experience in investigations, and demonstrate what you brought to the enquiry.

    Anyone know how it works?

Not sure, but i know of a guy that finished his 2 years probation then applied for CID and got in straight away.

Sure il find out how it all works. First chance I get to get promoted Im going for it. Thats what good about this job, lots of different areas to get into.

Just a question for everyone who's applying...

Has Anyone applying not got a full driving licence or in the stages of trying to pass their test or did everyone have licences before they applied??

Hey am still on my big red "R" plates, cannot wait to get them off (8 wks and counting!), feel such a twat as am not a teenager, far from it, was very lazy in getting around to getting the books! Don't know that I would be confident enough to zip about in a polis car! would gladly be chauffeured about (that's partly the reason it took me so long to get the test done!!!) People are very rude to new drivers, have never experienced as much ignorance as i have in the last year, there are some mental cases on the road!

Just while I am on here, does anyone know how I'd stand if I say I was offered a job but wanted to defer my start? I have a holiday booked to Cuba in Jan/Feb09, was booked before i even applied, would really hate to have to cancel as it'd likely mean that I would lose alot of money, my other half, as much as he is supporting me in this whole process, would be mightily peeved if he didn't get his fortnight of the 3 s's! any comments would be very much appreciated!

    cheers:cool:

I dont think deferring will be a problem as long as you have a valid reason and are able to prove it. General thinking is that the first intake of C14 is likely to be January so depending on your vetting clearing and your medical you might not be eligible for that intake. I'd say cross that bridge if you come to it!

Hi mate, think you may have been looking at the part of the website that deals with experienced detectives from other forces transferring to the psni.
I have been told this by a friend serving in CID: You may apply for CID or any other specialist role after your 2 years probation. However, if you sit your sergeants exam as a 'uniform' and are promoted you will not be eligible to transfer into CID as a DS. This is because you can't manage a team of DC's without experience in that field of work. So apply for CID, get the transfer and then work towards your promotion if you want. Hope this helps ;)

hey, dont know if anyone is intrested but ill post it anyway, the Belfast harbour police are currently recruiting, applications have to be in by friday the 19th midnight sharp. The link is http://www.belfast-harbour.co.uk/current-vacancies.htm if anyone wants to have a look!! im cyrrently trying to fill one in now its simple enough but requires a lot of time and effort, it can be done online like the PSNI. it will do as a backup for me as the PSNI is my first choice.

Hey all, how's everyone doin?! Haven't been on in an absolute lifetime! Been reading through the last few pages of various topics, it seems like nothing's changed much lol. Correct me if i'm wrong.. no Boardsies have got medicals yet, most of us passed the AC, and the merit pool will be upon us soon  i'm going to be dreading the end of September...as will about 2000 other people across NI etc. Has anyone got word of their vetting being passed? Or did anyone pass their AC and not get a vetting form yet? Best o' luck to all us C14ers..and to what ever C13er old timers are still lagging around ;)

hey Doug, long time no see.

Thankfully just about everyone on the boards has passed the A/C. There seems to be a 50/50 split between those who have received vetting forms and those who haven't. Only PapaYankeeGirl has passed this (so far).
A few of us have also received medical dates. These started last week.

A few calls have gone through to vetting and recruitment. It appears that the vetting forms are going out to those highly placed on the merit list. There are still forms to be sent out though, so fear not if you haven't got any yet.

I'm sick of all the waiting already. Roll on the merit list! That will at least put most of us out of our misery. :D

Sorry but will have to correct you! A few boardsies have got medicals and some have had and passed their medicals! PYG has passed vetting, havent had word of any others though, the ones who have got medicals/dates for medicals dont seem to have their vetting completed just yet.
Plenty have passed AC and not yet had vetting.

But like you say, the merit pool will be upon us very very soon, which should put an end to a lot of speculation and there should be "dear John" letters going out soon too....:(

Will be very interesting next few weeks for the boardsies!!

In about another 2 -3 weeks there should be calls going out for the November intake.

    So there you have it!!!!:D

Guys, as most you already know, the merit list comes out in a week or so. Before it does, I just wanted to remind everyone NOT to post their actual merit numbers on the boards. This is a public forum and the merit numbers are unique and will make you easily identifiable to anyone from recruitment branch.

    Here ends this mornings lesson.

    hi all

back from the lonely wild, i have just sent off my appealing, do i not holding out much hope. just looking back over some of the comments and well i have to say it really is down to the luck of the draw most of the time when it comes to points, for me i was coming out of towns past all the houses doing 40 in a 30 zone and got hit, another time road workers not take down signs after finishing work and i got caught. and once just pulled out of my house and stopped for reaching for my seat belt. bad luck . a well the laws the law it not fair or unfair. its just there to follow.
