haha, congrats im happy for you lol.

was just talkin to a guy from CID. my sisters house was broken into. he said now is the time to apply, in a few years, its likely theyll reduce the amount of officers being intaken. ie - if 50 officers leave, 50 get recruited.

    according to patten's thing

Am I on the right forum? No idea, but after 3 dear johns this has been 4th time lucky for me. 'Got the call' on Thursday. They asked me to confirm my details then casually said they have a place for me in April!!

For most people this is a no brainer and a year or 3 ago I wouldn't have thought twice, but now that I'm 35 (Omg!) Married, with one 3yr old and earning in excess of 21K. The starting salary wont be significantly much more than I'm on now & I've been through similar before as I was PT RIR for 10 years, and not sure if I want to go through the mill again for the sake of a few dollars more.

I know money isnt just the issue, and career prospects are good etc, but I'm a manager in my own job now & I'd have to dump that to become a bottom runger again, and promotion in PSNI isn't that easy by all accounts!

Meeting with an ex work colleague later in the week who joined recently to ask him a few things.

I've really only got a week to decide whether to hand my notice in or not.

BRICKING IT!!!!! btw whats the team colour etc for 12 April intake??

It's a big move if your hearts not in it - not that i'm suggesting it isn't, its just that you appear to come up with a lot of negative's and no positives?
I've met a lot of people who have or are prepared to give up a lot more just to get their dream job, you just need to take a min and weigh up whats more important to you and your family and what route you need to take to achieve this, and to be honest I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.

i think u should not bother. let them no asap so they can offer me your place. lol.

in all seriousness tho u mention promotion prospects are good in the psni which i think is a great point given the fact that your manager!!! fair enough your at the top of ur ladder but where else can u go? Psni constable would be a secure job which as u mentioned the startinng salary is slightly above the 21k a year, but look at what u'd be getting 5 years down the line!!! although u said yourself that money isnt the issue i think this is a job u have to go into really wanting to do it and if ur hearts not in it u wont enjoy it. It basically depends on how you and ur partner feel about it. im lucky as my partner is also applying and she is at the same stage as me!!! well let us know what u decide to do and welcome to the boards!

thats just my 2 cents and if it doesnt make sense sorry but i couldnt be bothered to proof read it but i wrote a song for every one.

SO...Penis got in and it all came out!

yep, as PE has pointed out after his recent call, we are a couple! engaged to be married n all that. And as my vetting is still ongoing I have to wait a little longer. (it was super weird listening to one half of "the call", I was standing there thinkin "this is what it's like to get the call, this is it...is this it? Is this really the call?...what else would it be, it must be the call...WOW THIS IS THE CALL!"..."cant believe that was the official call...very official") Anyway, good luck to everyone startin on 12th April cause you're gonna need it - livin with Penis for four weeks!!:pac:

Cheers for the comments - I just wish I was as keen as most of you Guys. When I got the call I just thought (oh right) then bricked it abit, whereas a couple of years ago I would've thought - holy f:eek:ck! I got the call!!

I'm a long way off top of my ladder atm, I'm an EO1, so loads of spec to progress if the opportunities come up.

Spoke to my psni mate (in the pub) today to talk things over - he didn't exactly help much as he kept hitting me with negatives - not as secure as it was, psni trying to justify job losses for cuts, depressing suicide tales etc - really cheered me up!!!:(

I think i might ring them and ask if i can defer for another month as there are alot of things happening in my work at the moment and I want to see how they pan out and need more time to think.
Does anyone know if this is possible?? My mate says it is.

    F:eek:ck it - I'll just get a coin out!!!!!!!!!

It must be reassuring for those of you starting on sunday to know that the course is going to be fairly easy, I mean if you can spend the first four weeks trying to get your leg over, there can't be to much studying!
Also, i've been really impressed with the obvious calibre of the potential police officers, great to know once you get your dream job where your priorities lie. I'm beginning to see why the public respect, trust and look upto the PSNI, I mean who wouldn't be pleased to know their taxes pay for a bunch of peole more interested in screwing around and not caring about other people. Looking forward to hopefully meeting some of these people, long time since i've socialised with people with no morals, let alone worked with them. Still at least its comforting knowing they'll make brilliant trustworthy police officers.
Keep up the good work guys!

Don't be tarring all the students with the same brush. Yes, there will be some with questionable morals and skewed priorities, but the same can be said about most lines of work.

Going by the work we took home from the induction day, we'll have more than enough to keep us occupied.

Still, we will have to set aside some time for banter.

It wasn't directed at all students - i amagine those with morals and intelligence will know it isnt directed at them.
Best of luck for your stay a G'ville

I understand where you're coming from and I too get kinda disgusted by how some people (particularly those in relationships) act.

You used rather broad strokes with your comments though.

Maybe we should all focus less on the actions and behaviour of others and focus on our own. Afterall its our own career we should be focusing on not anyone elses.

All the best to those starting GV soon, and fingers crossed to those like myself.

The same can be said for any Police training or college environment however the first few weeks is to get people settled into their new life and some allowances will be made. Having said that when the real work starts but the messing continues some people wil find themselves in trouble with the college authorities. Thats a given.

That's reassuring to know - thank you. I'm sure many of the stories are exaggerated (I hope!) but it's still good to hear from 'someone in the know' that that sort of behaviour won't be tolerated.

In all honesty I used the smallest brush in my box.
People who agree with my post will not feel any malice or disrespect from it, the only people who will be offended are obviousley those who now feel they are doing something wrong.
People will get upto whatever they wish - my post is just my opinion on the example it puts across to others in general.
I'm sure it just comes down to knowing whats right from wrong........lets hope everyones making the correct career choice.
It is also good to know that when we apparently graduate into the real work certain things will not be tolerated however, it suprises me that certain things are tolerated in the first few weeks, yes people are settling in and things are different but remember we are supposed to be adults and a big part of our job will be about making the right and wrong decisions.
If I am lucky enough to be invited to G'ville - just so you'll all sleep easier in your beds I want you all to know that when i'm 'settling in' somewhere new I still dont feel the need to put certain parts of my anotomy into other people in the first few weeks.

I think we're actually on the same hymnsheet here.

I'm kinda surprised that they don't lay down the law from day 1. Surely making allowances for the first few weeks only sets the tone and makes it all the more difficult to get it all back under control.

Nothing wrong if you are single though! A whole lot worse goes on! And you need to know when to have a bita fun and not turn into a work obsessed person!

Good luck with your application, the PSNI needs more exciting folk!!!

That's a bit harsh! 1979SD's not suggesting that people don't have a bit of craic while they're training. He's merely highlighting a the dubious morals of some individuals who will quite happily jump into bed with someone regardless of the marital/family life of either party.

I may be wrong here, but I thought that the police would be more interested in someone with integrety than someone who's "more exciting".

Seriously who cares? It makes no differance to me if the whole squad start sleeping with each other (apart from the fact I'll be think Im I really that ugly they won't let me join in!). I heard that everyone starting on sunday were adults. They all can make their own choice,s, thats the good thing about being a growing up or so iv heard.

But girls just remember that article 2 of the human rights act 1998 - Prohibation of torture, inhuman and degrading treatment.

So please don't be torturing me to sleep with you!!! I can't as My wife says she has a problem with it.
