OK, we have the rich south dubliners voting for the Treaty and we have a few "people" in the west.

However the Offaly people vote YES.

What is Offaly the new Ballsbridge??????? Catch yourselves on, Big Brian Cow-en is a globalist not an ordinary BIFFO.

Shows the effects a bit of propaganda and "patriotism" can have on the plebs.

That's a nice thing to say about the people of Offaly.

The Cowen honeymoon still goes on near here. In Clara they still have the bunting and posters up welcoming Cowen back as Taoiseach. No wonder Offaly voted Yes, nothing to do with EU, everything to do with Cowen.

Exactly, hence my comments. Cowen is a globalist, he represents Europe, not the Offaly people.

SO why vote YES based on the fact that the big man comes from Offaly??????

    Madness.

You could argue that Yes votes were correlated with wealth.

Or you could argue that Yes votes were correlated with education and literacy.

Or, preferably, you could not make wide sweeping assumptions about why people voted yes or no.

OK, explain to me why the Offaly people YES, when virtually every other area outside of Dublin voted NO.

I await this massive piece if insight.

The whole European concept. Look around and evaluate things for yourself, not just base opinions on the paid opinion makers who will always tell us how great "Europe" is.

This is a misinterpretation of the results. Most results across the country were a little over 50% against the treaty. This means that just under half of the voters in 'virtually every other area outside of Dublin' actually voted yes.

Your entire premise is false, and as such I reject your thesis... whatever it is!

Also your scare quotes around the word 'people' when referring to those who voted 'yes' infers they are not actually really people, which is blatently ignorant.

Omg yeah! And did you hear Europe is gonna turn into a fascist state with Cowen leading the way!?
I'll believe it when I see it. If you hate Europe so much leave.

Look at the percentage voting for/against and then come back to me.

    Offaly the "new" Ballsbridge.

As for ignorant, maybe you want to ponder the fact that we are already being bull horned into a second "go", when we know better.

i have looked around..in the last 15 years this country has boomed like never before and a lot of that was due to us being in the EU.

1st of all im pleased to be able to say that my own constituence of meath east voted yes also

2ndly , while the no vote clearly won , it was not a landslide and in many constituencies , it was a small majority that voted no

im perplexed as to why anyone would feel the need to pour scorn over such a large minority of voters

Yes, clearly all the people in Carlow/Kilkenny, Clare and Offaly/Laois were hoodwinked were all duped, maybe the Yes in CW/KK was the Mary White factor??? And of course the Yuppies in Dublin don't count because they're rich..
But I'm stupid because a yes vote means we lose our commissioner..., oh wait
Our kids would be conscripted into a Super EU army ([sarcasm]maybe thats why the unemployed voted no, imagine working, ugh...[/sarcasm])
Our unborn kids would be aborted
Agreeing EU countries could harmonise their tax, which would mean would we have to join in...

Glad I now know that people who voted yes are stupid....

You have inferred with the use of scare quotes that anyone who voted yes is not a human being, it doesn't matter if Brian Cowen sacrifices kittens to the devil, your inferral is still ignorant.

Or that people were canvassed, and the Yes side were able to explain the benefits of the treaty and show up the lies of the unelected and unaccountable Libertas.

My experience from the canvass shows that many people had initially believed the Libertas lies, however when engaged with most went yes. This is clearly shown in the tally from areas that were canvassed

Your canvass should have started last year sometime though.I sincerely hope that message gets through to your boss Mr Roche.
Complacency versus organisation delivered you a defeat in my opinion and with it comes all the proclamations that the no vote means something that it mightn't.

I have met an incredible amount of people at this stage who voted no because they didn't know.
