Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

i am thinking of buying a one acre site, with a mobile home in situ for over 20 years, and was wondering if we needed planning permission to purchase a newer mobile home and put it in place of the present one. THe present mobile home does not have planning permission as it was not required when placed. Also what are the possibilities of getting planning permission for a house on this site, if mobile home already there.

First of all you do need planning permission for a mobile home (+ septic tank) and it was needed 20 years ago so whoever told you differently is wrong.

Putting or having a mobile home on the site would have no bearing on seeking permission for a house apart from the fact that you will need to seek retention permission for the mobile home at the time.

Just to clarify, If a unlawful development is built for more than 7 years then the council cannot ask you to knock it BUT it still does not have planning permission and will need retention.
It is a loophole similar to squatters rights etc. If you intend to apply for planning permission on the site dont p1ss the planners off by trying to pull a fast one.

Its not a loophole, its a statute of limitations for planning,
    theres a big difference,
It was purposely created, and was originally 5 years

i am still completely confused. if i purchase the site with the old mobile home on it, and put a newer mobile home in place of old one,

    a. will i be left in peace
    b. will some county council official demand that i remove it.

    thanks

ring the planner for your area and ask them.

There might already be permission to store a mobile on the site, I would imagine that as it's a one for one replacement there is no change to the status of the mobile on the site.

To live at the site is a different matter, one that you need to speak to the council about.

Look, you asked for advice and you got it The planners will deal with your planning application and no one here can answer hypothetical questions.

What next - are you going to post up on a forum about drinking/driving. Will you be stopped by the Gardai or will they leave you in peace. Same answer applies - who knows.

A bit of advice. Ringing the local planners is the always the best advice that is posted in this forum. Now if I were you I would loose the attitude if you want to continue posting here.

Yes; we have, but the bottom line is you need to speak to the planners as they know the local area plan (zoning permitted developments etc) for the site, we don't!
