Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi folks,

Have been looking at the idea of a bike for ages now. So looking for some info as I know zero.
I'm not really interested in the sporty racing bikes, more like the cruisers, like a Harley etc...

Please feel free to educate a complete novice!

    Muchos gracias!

How much do you have to spend?

What age are you (for advice regarding insurance)?

How far would you be travelling on average...short trips to/from work or long distance hauls etc?

No matter what bike you decide on, make sure you get proper training and wear good protective gear. The protective gear can mean the difference between dying or walking away with bruises. And I cannot understate the importance of training. Any muppet can drive a bike, but not everyone does it safely. Get the training....it is well worth the cost & could save your life.

    thx, will do a search.

have no interest in sport bikes, more of a cruiser man. I'm 29 BTW.
Have full plans to get training and go down the proper route, same as a cars driving licence.

It's a lot quieter here than the poker forum eh!
Anyway, like the others gotta recommend training. Most accidents in cars result in damage to the car, not the driver. Even minor events on bikes often result in broken bones, which can be quite inconvenient ( though it does give you time to play a lot more online poker).

Strangely enough, the two worst accidents I've had were at 0mph. The worst was an artic driving over my foot while I was stopped at lights( 2 broken metatarsals). Also slipped on cobblestones when just pulling away from a standstill(cracked collarbone).

Bye the way, I do more than 50,000km a year. So I'd kinda be in a high risk catagory. Just commuting or weekend riding is bound to be less risky.

I started on the bike a couple of months ago to get out of the traffic and it's the best thing ever, even in the rain!
Saving about 8 hours a week from Celbridge to St Stephens Green, just means I get to cook for the wife every evening (didn;t think that one through did i!!!)
