Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm watching Wrestlemania II online now. In the women's title match, the challenger is a lady called Velvet McIntyre, and she is introduced as being from "Cork, Ireland". Surely this is bogus?

She was also billed from Dublin, Ireland at several house shows in 1987 and just Ireland at the 1987 Survivor Series.

I'd say the only thing remotely Irish about her is that she actually looked like a bit of a pikey.

On a completely unrelated note, the ring announcer for the Chicago portion of this is terrible and incredibly irritating; I think I know where the inspiration for Mr. Kennedy's gimmick comes from...

It's how a lot of North American promotions were announced. WWWF and AWA and NWA did it that way as well, I noticed it when watching the first Clash Of The Champions last week. It's just the old school of announcing.

I choose to believe the announcer in question is a mongo.

Nah, i think they repeated the surnames of each guy in case it was missed the first time.

This is probably the last forum that I'd expect to see a thread about Velvet McIntyre. Lol.

Funnily enough, i was just looking at some of the 1st few UFCs last week and noticed the exact same thing!

On another note, in UFC1 its hillarious when Royce Gracie fought that dude who had one boxing glove on. What could the guy have possibly been thinking?

It's more than just wrestling announcers who repeated names, it was done in all sports years back

Art Jimmerson did that for a reason. The glove was on his left hand, and he used that for blocking so that it wouldn't damage that hand deflecting the blow. His right hand had no glove on it, and it was used for striking. He was only trained in boxing if i recall correctly, although i haven't watched that event in about eight months.

Velvet McIntyre, real name Velvet Mykietowich,
was actually born in Dublin though spent most of her life in Vancouver.
She trained under Sandy Barr in Oregon
but became pregnant with twins in 1998 and is now retired from wrestling
