new computer help again

    Ok I have been having a bad few days with a new computer build,

    Radeon HD 3870X2

    Intel Quad Q9450

    4GB ram

    Asus P5KC mobo

    500gb *IDE* HDD <--- FAIL

    IDE DVD RW <--- FAIL

    Everything drivers wise is updated and BIOS.

    ok so when I try to install a game from the a dvd to the IDE harddrive it totally kills the computer and I'm running XP because Vista setup wouldn't recognise that there was a hard drive at all,

    so where is the issue? mobo? HDD? even just the IDE controller? because I've managed to install a game (age of conan) onto my usb harddrive from the computer.

    Also a side note I can't seem to get my monitor to display 1680x1050, this is the monitor i believe http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=339201
    it just show's like half the screen.
