I cannot stand Guns 'N' Roses. I just don't get why people like them. Yeah, Slash is a good guitarist, but everything else about them is awful.

These bands were the bane of my life when I was a teenager

    Nirvana
    Pearl Jam
    Soundgarden
    Hole
    Sonic Youth

....and any other band around at the time who processed and packaged 'depression, man' and made a fortune out of it

The 'Depressed Man' Package is a load of bollox, Pearl Jam, I can't see them fitting in that catagory at all! And I'll think you'll find Nirvana, Pearl Jam & Soundgarden are all fantastic musicians. Any I like these bands in my interesting mixure in taste, and I'm not exactly what you would call 'depressed'. Sure I'm from Cavan, why would I be!?! :D

How the hell did you know I was thinking of you specifically when I wrote that post?!! :p
No doubt about it they ARE fantastic musicians, I just hate the style of music because I think it's really depressing to listen to. The last thing I wanted to do as a teenager was to listen to music that pissed me off even more!!
Cavan eh? So you probably have a dining table with a drawer in it so you can hide your dinner when someone unexpectedly visits :p:)

    Yeah,
The Monkees were the 60's westlife, not the Beatles.

The Beatles were the 60's McFly.*

    * Might not be Blisterman's actual belief.

Wow I think I struck a nerve here.

They were a boy band that mainly appealed to 14 year old hysterical girls.
    And sh!t t' boot!

Well it is the subject title of the thread. Amazing that blood still runs so strong about that band though...

Not so much struck a nereve - I like the Beatles but I'm not a huge fan.
There's no problem with you not liking them - that's your opinion.
But comparing them to Westlife is just wrong.

Consider songs like "Eleanor Rigby", "Helter Skelter", "I Am The Walrus", "Come Together", "A Day In The Life" - now you think it's reasonable to compare them with stuff like "Flying Without Wings" and "World Of Ourr Own"??

Plus there's the obvious difference - The Beatles actually played instruments and wrote their own songs.

Let Jape do that. By all accounts their new album is meant to be excellent, which reminds me...

*goes to get new Jape album*

Jape is brilliant. Totally different live to the cd, but I can't decide which incarnation I prefer - probably live

Most definately numero uno on the list is The Beatles...man i can't stand em

    also:

    Aslan
    Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Amy Swineface<<almost as bad as the beatles
    Madonna
    Nirvana
    Tupac Shakur<<overrated
    Nelly
    The Frames
    Snow Patrol
    Westlife
    Boyzone
    Take That
    Spice Girls

There would be a bigger list but i dont have the time to waste listing more.

U2 - I don't think I'd say I dislike them, I just wouldn't get excited when they are on the radio. In fact, they bore me to the point where I'd turn over.

Madonna - I like the remakes of some of her songs but that 4 Minutes song does my head in. Its not good. Seriously. I don't actually get how there is such a hype over such a weak song.

Soulja Boy - or whatever incorrect spelling he uses. That whole type of music irritates me. I admire talented charismatic rappers (Kanye, despite myself!) but he's just another one clinging to the bandwagon.

REM - Again, don't dislike them, just find them dull.

My Chemical Romance - that guy actually makes me angry just to look at him, the lead singer. And this whole skeleton thing they have going. And the fact that they put on such a weird accent when they sing. And the weird emotional following they have garnered without showing any unusual talent or depth in their music. Fads never last. These guys should enjoy their 15 minutes.

That wanker from Coldplay (Chris Martin) & Bono deserve to be shot.

Aswell as pretty much everyone in the charts today (with the exception of Snow Patrol, I think they're quite good).

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭enda1

    Snow Patrol
The Killers (though I don't think many like them any more)
    Coldplay
    The Kooks
etc. etc. what ever other flavour of the month

If I'm being honest I really havent heard a good new song in the last year or two. I find myself going back to 90's/80's music constantly.

Although from what I've heard of it I think Weezer's new album will end that.

I absolutely can't listen to any DJ in the charts. How anyone can call this music is beyond me. 99.9% of them just steal someone else's beats and get some 12 year old girl to puff on soe helium and sing some stupid "i love you" lyrics.

Oh and a six-year-old could write a Faithless song. I don't know what it's called but there's one particular song that is just laughable

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,289 ✭✭✭Howard the Duck

Red Hot Chilli Peppers (How bout another song about California there)

Stereophonics (Just awful band with worse lyrics)

    Foo Fighters (rock by numbers)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,508 ✭✭✭Green Giant

    Duffy
    McFly
    Amy Swinewhore
    Lily frickin Allen
    Limp Bizkit
    Ja Rule
    Nelly
R&B ******s like Usher and Mario

I reluctantly await castigation from people who actually like any/all of the above

Time for some additions to that list:
Republic of Loose (bringing cack to a whole new level)
    Mark Ronson
    Arcade Fire
    Kanye West
    Estelle
    Kanye West and Estelle collaborations

I don't know anybody who'd hate Christy or The Pogues.
Huge group of 15 or 16 heads from my year went to see Christy Moore, he's fantastic. More keen on the ballads, and hate the 'Joxer contingent'. The Pogues are in a league of their own too.

I do however hate The Wolfe Tones.
It's not 'rebel' music of any sort, it's just 'OhAh,Buy a CD' stuff.

Don't really know anyone who likes the Tones, even out of a few republicans.

Anyway, I bought Kate Nashs CD.
    Took some stick for that.
    It was crap.

    My list:

    Kate Nash
Duffy (done so much better before)
    Snow Patrol
    Damien Rice

The Pogues I can take or leave, some good songs and some crap ones, but Christy Moore is top of my list by a country mile, I despise the guy.

Other Irish artists I can't stand:

    Damien Rice
    Paddy Casey
    Damien Dempsey
    Paul Brady
    Declan O'Rourke
    Duke Special
    Republic of Loose

There are probably others I've forgotten, but that'll do for starters.
