    The Star L1A1.

    IMG_0284.jpg

This baby is an SLR/FAL Lovers ultimate Piece of airsoft kit
that will make you drool. The only thing that could make this
better is if it was Gas Blow back!!.

My Thanks to all at eirsoft.ie for importing and getting a downgrade
done for me before it entered into the country.
(I may need your help to sort out the teething issues)

    Price 650 Euros
This included a Downgrade to conform to Irish Limits.
    Postage.
    Battery (Non standard shaped battery)
    Spare Magazine.

I took the photos early in the morning so some are not up
to scratch. I will add more Pics at a later date.

Currently on order is a top-cover with scope mountings
and a new fire selector switch to let me select Auto.
And I have a bid on a sling on ebay.
Not sure yet if I can afford to look for a Trilux scope for it.

Unfortunately for me when I opened the box and went to
fire this nothing happened. No Noise nothing. It wont fire
on single fire. from Reading some threads this appears to
be an issue for a few people. When I tried following the
dis-assembly instructions they did not work either.

Supposedly to take the top cover off and expose the innards.
You have to push the hopup unit forward while opening the
gun via the body locking lever. This did not work on mine as
the nozzle was catching on the hopup unit. Again this is an
issue that other users appear to have too.

I have not had time to see what the problem actually is and
I've never stripped an AEG down before and have no electronics
knowledge but hopefully when I have time at the weekend I will
start to learn how to strip it and see if anything is obviously wrong.

The over all weight and finish and sturdiness of this AEG is truly amazing. I was stunned when I compared it to my KA FAL.
The FAL's finish is crap compared to the Stars SLR.

The Real steel L1A1 SLR was single fire only and on this
AEG the fire selector switch is is shaped so you can only
    engage it to single fire...........However.....
...... There is a full auto setting. You can open the body
of the gun ever so slightly via the body locking lever
and rotate the fire selector switch over to the Auto firing mode.
There is even a notch that the fire selector switch clicks into.

Star sell a separate fire selector switch which is shaped different
so you don't need to do this every time. Or else you can remove
the original switch and file it down a little and re-paint it.

Here is the Star L1A1 and the KA FAL in the same photo.

The Flash eliminator has a bayonet lug on it and there appears
to be a little give on the barrel.
    th_IMG_0285.jpg

The hand guard is textured like pebbledash and is Solid and strong
with no wobble whatsoever. I was going to put a real-steel handguard
on it but I dont think there is any need to.
    th_IMG_0286.jpg

The Foresight is not a post type fore sight. It looks like a mixture
between a post type foresight and a blade type foresight. Again the
protectors are skelaton and not solid. There is a gas plug here
too but I am unsure if this comes out as its stiff and does not appear
    to turn.

The Carrying handle is strong and safe to use to carry the AEG.

The Magazine release catch works well, you can tell there is a cheap
spring in it though. would rather a stronger feeling one.

The Cocking lever flips out to allow you to open cover the slide.
This again is solid and does not feel flimsy.

The Trigger unit pays attention to detail and there is even the little
bit behind the trigger that is on real steel.

There are markings on the receiver serial numbers etc trads etc.
    th_IMG_0295.jpg
The Magazine itself are metal and plastic and are Heavy! when empty
the magazine follower protrudes outwards so it will push ever last
    BB out of the magazine.

Pistol grip solid strong no wobble.
    The Body locking lever works!

    th_IMG_0290.jpgth_IMG_0291.jpg

The Back sight flips down when no in use. It feels a little too
easy to flip up and down but its not causing an issue.

The Butt stock is nice. Its pulls out under spring pressure and rotates
to allow you to access the battery. I have not had time to try get the
battery back out but it appears to be very tightly put in there and
I cannot get it out with my fingers so need a long nosed pliers or something.
    th_IMG_0299.jpgth_IMG_0300.jpg

At the base of the stock the rear sling swivel, It feels solid
but dont like the idea that the weight of the rifle is going
to be tugging and pulling on this bit of plastic. So if I skirmish
with it I may just not use a a sling.

The breach block and slide area like most other AEG's pulls
back to reveal the hop up unit. Its important to note here
that I've read this needs to be pushed forward towards the barrel
in order for you to successfully open the body of the AEG via
the body locking lever. In the default position the hop up unit
covers the Nozzle. I will look more into this at the weekend
once I've had a chance to dis assemble it.

Have also been told you can separate the front and back of the AEG
by removing the centre hinge screws (The Big round things)
and by tapping out the magazine release catch Pin.
(Unsure of which pin this is or why it needs to be tapped out yet)

As the single fire is not working have not had a chance to test it out.
Am told that the motor noise is quieter in this but I dont think it is.
I can fire on Full Auto and the rate of fire is high. 9.6v batt.

When I fire on full auto a feel a tiny tiny Kick from the pistol grip
as if the motor itself is jumping up and down slightly. This may or may
not be a potential issue. I know nothing about the internals of AEG's
    so honestly cant tell.

All in All VERY Happy with this purchase. Hopefully I can sort out
    the firing and disassembly issue.

Have been reading that the accuracy on this is not great as its a two part barrel system??
Whatever that means but it looks like only one barrel. from the parts diagram.
Also read the barrel could do with being changed to a tightbore barrel but read someplace
else that it was already tightbore but Stars tight bores are different dimensions.
Either way it seems to fire fine to the end of my garden! and Im happy.
