Back dated work seekers allowance

I have just finished college and am looking for a job in the field I have studied. I applied for the job seekers allowance and got my first payment today. I noticed that it was not back dated to the date that I finished college which was the 19th May. I was wondering should this payment have been back dated? I have given them a letter form college stating what date I had finished....

It only gets backdated to the day you made the claim, if you did apply for backdating to the 19th of may you should of either got the money or a dissallowance for that period. If you got neither, it could of been overlooked.... just contact them and they'll do it.

If you didn't apply for backdating, you can still go in and ask for it to be backdated. They'll ask you to fill in a backdating request form and they'll let you know if your getting it then!

when did you sign on if you dont mind me asking?

i too am having a tough time finding work in my field. how long did your process take? like if i sign on tomorrow will it take a month or two before my first payment?
