I was wondering about this yesterday. Do we have any substantial reserves of oil or gas?

I know there is some gas but we still import 87% or something don't we? Do we have any oil?

There are definite gas fields out there. Some oil was found off Waterford in the 1980s but it wasn't considered viable then. It might be viable now given the high price of oil.

The Department have done a lot of research looking for likely spots and that is what the oil companies are chasing now.
