Lawn Drainage

I'm thinking of draining the garden but since I'm living in an estate there's no where to drain it too being surrounded by other houses and footpath.

I am thinking of brining the pipes to a soak pit as opposed to trying to breaking into the drain pipes from the house. Can a soak pit be located near the house? Will the ground above the soak pit be soft even if it's deep enough? Could a soak pit be located under a garden shed to hide it?

    Any suggestions?
