    Hi there!

My hotpoint fridge won't hold temp, I've shaken the cabinet and the temperature dorpped for an hour , but is not holding at cold temp.
    Its about 7yrs old.

I don't hear the compressor clicking on.

Is it repairable & could i do this myself?
If not, approxiamately do you think it would cost ?
Can anyone recommend a good repairman in Limerick.

    Regards,
    DT

If you don't know what your doing it wouldn't be worth the risk to take it apart yourself,as far as how much to fix thats like asking how long is a piece of string :D whip out the goldenpages and see if anyone will come out and give you a quote.

At 7 years old, I'd say get a quote, and then check out how much a new one would cost. Most of the companies will take away the old unit for free, or for a small fee. Very handy service, imo.

If you go down the road of buying a new 1 ask about them taking the old one away if they say its X amount say another place is taken it away for free(or cheaper)and is there anyway of getting the charge lowered/dropped

Saved myself €150 last year doing that, gas cooker needed to be removed and a new 1 fitted(no new piping literally connecting the leads)told them another place was doing it for free and they threw it in for free happy days :D

I thought the whole recycling fund thing meant if you bought a new one they had to take away the old one?

your correct that is why you pay the PRF in the first place. OP if the compressor is not clicking on you more than likely need a re-gas or a new stat.

re-gas would require specialist equipment and I wouldnt recommend you try change the thermostat yourself either tbh

    Hi Miju

Are you an engineer or a technician, you seem to know what you are talking about? Do you work for any particular company.

Used to work for Hotpoint and fixing machines / ordering parts over the phones etc. But not any longer ;)
