How long will it take to get an appointment with an orthodontist?

Obviously it varies - but I was wondering if I could get a rough estimate? I have a dentist appointment in about 10 days, and after the checkup they will refer me to an orthodontist (to get braces). I can't go straight to the orthodontist, because it's been years since I got my teeth checked out. The waiting game bugs me.

Like you said it varies, but if I remember rightly it was a few weeks before I went to the orth for the first time. The first few visits tend to be rather long
