78,000 miles on a '98 Ford Fiesta 1.3, about 10k since I got it. Low compression in the first cylinder so I don't think there'll be much left in it if it turns out to be camshaft wear (OHV engine so I assume it'd be a pig of a job to replace that)...

Sniff I remember when it was 0, we were both so young then.

    91,000 on a 2003 Focus
    112,000 on a 2002 Avensis (parents)
200,000 on a 1995 Mondeo (my previous car, now driven by my sisters)
52,000 on a 1974 Capri. (I suspect that is 152,000 as I can only verify the miles for the past 10 years)

None of the fords have had any work done to them that is not recommended in the service since bought apart from:
    1) Mondeo needed a water pump sometime in the past 5 years. A seal went in the diesel pump and the accelerator cable snapped.
    2) Focus needed a ECU firmware update to cure a misfire
    3) Capri has a leaky petrol tank at the moment

89K on my 1997 Punto. It had 83K when I bought it in November so I drive about 1000 miles a month!!!

What is the "life" of a car in miles?

E.g. I know a lot of people that won't buy a car with over 100,000 miles.
