    Beech, Laurel?

Winter time is norm for planting.

Beach is good, Hornbeam looks similar and grows on a wider variaty of soils... Laurel is OK but its evergreen, and not native :(..

Why not go for a mixed native species hedge, it will fill out well, look good and lots of wildlife interest.. :D

Plant bare root specimens/whips during their dormant period Nov-April, potted plants can be planted anytime but tend to be more expensive.

    I've bought lots here... http://www.futureforests.net/br_hedging.htm
Look at the bottom of the page for suggested mixed hedge options...

Get the hedge in as early as possible, same for any structural planting, trees etc... Then by the time you get round to the other planting they will have established a bit..

    Cheers
