€9000 for a Qashqai seems to a bit too good to be true.

this is an email i got so i am going to string this ''mate'' along. have told him i have a friend in his area that will go and meet him.

    Hi mate,
Sorry for the late reply, I had a very busy day today. I just spoke to my business partner and I'm afraid I cannot deliver myself because it will take about two days on the road and these people here really need me so, one of my employees will bring the car. I've been searching for the best solution for this transaction and one of my employees suggested a specialized company to handle the funds since the distance is an inconvenience for both of us. He suggested the following escrow company: www.ukautopayments.com. I've read their terms and they can also take care of the necessary paperwork in order to register the car in your name in case you decide to keep it. All you have to do is to register at their website and then I need your user name so I can set up the transaction. You can read their terms here: www.ukautopayments.com/howitworks.php. I give you seven days to test the car and only if you decide to keep it, they will release the money to me so, I believe this is the safest way. Let me know your decision because there is another person who wants to buy it and I need to know which way to go. The car will come with the servoce book, manuals and two remote controls for the alarm. One more thing I saw that they accept paypal and bank transfer as payment method which I believe is 100% secure. Let me know your decision as soon as possible.

this is a scam and this plonkers name is aalbert hoffman

The low price, UK plates and supposed urgency are usually found in scam adverts. But it could well be genuine.

    Seen this on Carzone.http://www.autotrader.ie/search/Volkswagen/Golf/200924193057501/advert?channel=CARS

The G/F was looking at cars and liked this coz she wanted the colour coded bumpers something to make it look nicer. I was suspicious of the price so i emailed the guy and got this back :

    Hi,
I'm Alex Freeston, you inquired about my 2004 Volkswagen Golf 1.4 C/line. FULLY LOADED.
I apologize for the delay, I'm in the military and now I am in United Kingdom and that's why I couldn't reply in time. If you are still interested in buying it, I'm asking 6,000€ . The car is registered in Ireland. It has a clean title, very well maintained, always garage kept, no rust, excellent condition, runs and sounds 100% perfect with no leaks or noises. All power and optional equipments are working perfect. I have to sell this car as fast as I can because in three weeks I will be in Iraq and I think I'll stay there for a while that's why I'm selling it so cheap. I intend to buy a new car when I'll get back home. If you want to buy the car please e-mail me back.

    Regards!
    Alex

Then the alarm bells kind of went off. What do ye think?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,340 ✭✭✭Cmar-Ireland

The alarm bells were well justified.
    Definate scam.

Just what i was thinking, first looked at the email this morning and as i woke up it kind of hit home.

    Thanks:o

Unfortunately your quote means the link is still up. Can you remove it?

    Thanks
Googled his mobile number, and found Volkswagen Bora 1.4 Highline 78 000 Miles (2001), a Toyota Corolla 1.8 GLXi *Mint Condition* (1994), so he looks like a dealer. As the info states "private", this looks dodgy. Possible dealer selling a few cars, and trying to avoid mister tax man?

i think this is so funny , one of the better replies i got on carzone...lol

Hi, thank you for your response, please I would have love to visibly inspect the car but my present location and nature of my job will not allow me to do so. Please kindly bear with me! From the look of the car on the site and your description of the car, I'm satisfy with the car condition so I'm gonna buy the car at the price of 17,750EUR.

    BRIEF DETAIL ABOUT MY PERSON!
I am Spec, Robert Konnen a US Army commander of 3rd Infantry with the US lead coalition forces currently in Iraq on a war against terrorism/freedom of Iraqis. Based on United Nation Security council and United States legislative and executive decision for withdrawing all coalition troops from Iraq this year, I have been approved for withdrawal in few weeks time and will move to your country after my withdrawal from Iraq and subsequent retiring from 35 years of meritorious service and to work as a consultant to your country's arm forces. My mission in your country will be to work hand in hand with your country finest intelligent officer to strengthen there intelligence capability in checkmating the activities of terrorist groups possibly operating within your country according to CIA intelligence report. I will need a vehicle for myself during my period of staying in your country that is why I contacted you concerning the car you placed on offer.

PAYMENT FOR THE CAR; Though I'm aware this might sounds weird and surprise to you! But please consider the task we have been facing here virtually every day for the past 6 years which I know you must have been watching on television, you will then agree with me and consider it worthy to assist me on this! I have in my custody the sum of $14.5million US Dollars cash! Which I want you to assist me to receive for safe keeping pending my arrival in your country. I got the money during our raid on insurgent hideout in a remote area of Baghdad in April 2003 which was abandoned by a fleeing regime leader on sensing that we are trailing them though they were got killed during shoot out.
I and Master Sgt MARK BOWLING, Chief Commander officer of my unit agreed that we will part with some potion of the money before making it known to the military authority. Though seems quite an illegal thing to do by officers of our calibre, but considering the amount of risk we run virtually every day which I have lost number of close allies and relative including my brother in-law who was killed by a road side bomb, you will agree with me on parting with the money! I got this money deposited with a Red Cross undercover agent informed him that it's belong to an European Contractor who was held hostage and later killed be an insurgent group, but we are making contact to trace his relatives so that the money will be repatriate back to them. Since I cannot personally move this money to your country where I will assume my next job in few weeks from now or to the United States since the US Military Code of Conduct prohibits us from such act. It's under my power to approve whoever comes forth for this money, so for this, I need someone I could trust! If you accept and sincerely know that you can be trusted! I will transfer the money to your region where you will be the beneficiary because I’m military personnel and cannot be in custody of such amount that’s why I need to present someone as the beneficiary. Being an American and a Specialist officer works with the military intelligence department here in Al-Basrah, I have 100% authentic means of transferring the money through diplomatic courier service here in Al-Basrah. I just need your acceptance and all is done!

Please if you consider it right to assist me to receive this money, I want you to tell me in percentage how much of this money I should give you for your assistance. Though I have in mind of giving you 20% but I will appreciate if you tell me yourself! I will give you the complete details on how we will execute this transaction successfully only when I’m fully convinced that you are willing to assist me and believing that my fair share will be well secured in your hands for the sake you have fear of GOD. Once you agree on this, you will deduct the car purchase price of 17,750EUR from this fund.
I believe I can trust you? One passionate appeal I'm gonna make to you is not to discuss the content of this mail with anybody! Should you have reasons to reject this offer, please kindly destroy this mail content as any leakage of this information will be too catastrophe for soldiers here in Iraq! I have been shot and wounded twice and twice I have survived two terrible suicide bomb attacks just by special grace of God, this has prompted me to reach out for help. I will honestly want this be resolved immediately! Where we are now we can only communicate through our military communication gadget a facility which is firmly secured and effectively monitored so the safest means we can communication for now is via email so that nobody can monitor our conversation! I will only reach you through email, because our calls might be monitored. I just have to be sure whom I am dealing with. If you are interested please send me an email indicating your interest and I will then explain in clearer details on how this will be carried out. I'm writing from a fresh email account so if you are not interested do not reply to this email and please delete this message, if no response after 3 days I will then search for someone else. I am doing this on trust, you should understand and you should know that as a trained military expert I will always play safe in case you are the bad type, but I pray you are not. $14.5million US Dollars is a lot of money which everyone dreams of!

At successful conclusion of this transaction, It is my intention to devote 30% of this money to support the effort of the global world to alleviate the sufferings of more than 3 million innocent Iraqi citizen’s who are refugees in Turkey, Jordan and Kuwait. Also 10% will be contributed in helping the refugees in Darfur region of Sudan, Myanmar and East Timor Where we currently have the highest number of refugees and displaced people as a result of crisis in those Countries. You need to visit such places; you will shed tears to see what human beings like us are going through on a daily basis! My experience on battle ground in this place shows they lack lots of nutritional imbalance, some can go a whole day without food or water its horrible to face. So Instead of allowing these terrorists to get the money and spend it on purchasing arms from Russia and China to fight us and poses a serious threat to world peace, its better channeled to saving the world!

Awaits your positive response so we can proceed, in less than 12 working days the money would've been secured in your custody and I will come over to pickup the car and collect my fair share of the money. Though this money will never bring back many of my close friends and those innocent Iraqis who sacrifices there lives to ensure a safer and secure world! May there souls rest in the bosom of ALMIGHTY GOD! But we can only use this money to give back hope to those currently at the different refugee camps in and around Iraq!

    Best Regards

    Spec, ROBERT KONNEN

    Hi there....
I think the car is good at that price anyway.....However I am currently in fulham and I wouldnt be able to undertake a personal inspection.
I do have an agent that would handle all neccesary documentation and shipping.
I buy cars from all over europe and resell them in the middle east and africa.
Can I pay you via a certified bank draft ?
Please get back to me with your full names and contact address inclusive of your telephone number so that I can forward the payment out to you.

    Cheers

    Busko

That's not how the scam works. The idea is that they overpay you using a rubber draft and you refund the difference.

A collegue at work had the same scam tried on him, in fact most of the words look the same. I wish there was a way to fry these peoples PC's.
