    Hi again,

The car is not in Dublin. If we reach an agreement, I am willing to arrange the truck shipping to your location. Shipping will take 10 days maximum. The car along with all the necessary documents is located in Liberec, Czech Republic and is ready to be shipped. Everything has been paid for (inspections, crating, shipping, staff, insurance, etc.) so you won't have to pay for anything else than the car.

Due to amount involved, I suggest using the security provided by Sterling Bond Escrow services. They will be the 3rd objective party involved and in my opinion this is the safest way to handle the transaction. They will be providing us both with the security and confidence that nothing will go wrong. You will have the car along with all appropriate documents for inspection and test drive before any money is released to me. That's the Sterling Bond escrow procedure:

    1. Buyer, seller reach an agreement (price and delivery conditions)
    2. Buyer sends money to Sterling Bond
    3. Sterling Bond confirms to seller that the amount has been received
    4. Seller performs the required services (shipping, insurance) via Sterling Bond shipping
    5. Buyer receives the goods
    6. If the goods comply with buyer's conditions, Sterling Bond releases the money to seller

As you can see, you will receive the car before any money is released to me. You will get the chance to inspect and test drive it while your money is still safely held in a Sterling Bond account. Only after you confirm to Sterling Bond that you agree with the vehicle, they will release the money to me.

If, for some reason, you disagree with the vehicle (I assure you that is NOT going to happen since my car is in immaculate condition inside and out), it will be shipped back to me on my expense and Sterling Bond will send you your money back.

If you wish to proceed further, I will need your complete name, shipping address and phone no so I can set up the transaction with Sterling Bond. I will handle logistics.
    Regards,
    Khristine

    Good evening,

First of all, thank you for your interest in my car. I am selling it at this price (€17.100) because I have just came out from a divorce with my husband. As the divorce settled, the car remained in my possession as it is registered in my name. I have recently moved back to Czech Republic , my home country and as a single woman I have no use for it. Not to mention that I can not manage with the right hand drive here. This car is in excellent working condition, no scratches, flaws or any kind of damage, slightly used, in 100% working and looking condition.

As far as payment is concerned, I request only secure pay and would prefer the transaction to be handled using Sterling Bond Escrow services. The final price for the car is €17.100 - including shipping and handling to your location.

If you're interested in buying, please provide me with your full name, address and phone no so I can initiate the transaction through Sterling Bond Escrow.

    Thank you,
    Khristine

"Adam Bale" and "khristine" appear to have changed their name to "Gary Burke" this week. I emailed about a car for sale on carzone (an '06 lexus is220 for €5400) and got this exact reply word for word.

    "Gary Burke" to me:

Hi there, the car is still available for the price of 5.400 EUR and that I am awfully sorry for the late reply. The car is in excellent overall condition, never involved in an accident. The car is still Irish registered.I worked in Ireland for 2 years and the company i worked for was dissolved and i had to move back to UK. I am selling it for this price because the UK registration taxes are to expensive for me.
    Please get back to me.

    Reply from me:

Hi, Im very interested in the car and would like to see and test drive as soon as possible. Could you send me your contact phone no. or give me a call on ...

    "Gary Burke" to me:

    Hi,
That's great news! I live in Plymouth UK. Can you make it? I really hope for an affirmative answer here, otherwise I don't think I can hold the car for you....or anyone else for that matter.
I'm receiving a lot of offers and the first who will pay me will probably get the car...
    Email me back asap.
    Thanks,

    Reply from me:

Were trying to work out options for travelling over on saturday. In the meantime could you please forward me the reg no. Also, is there a service history on the car?

    "Gary Burke":

    Reg No 06-wh-2128
As previously stated, due to the size of this transaction, I suggest using the security provided by Sterling Bond Escrow Company.
I will cover the escrow fees. Since I presume you are not familiar with the escrow procedure, I have briefly described the transaction steps below:

    1. Buyer, seller reach an agreement (price and delivery conditions)
    2. Buyer sends money to escrow.
    3. Sterling Bond confirms to seller that the amount has been received.
    4. Seller performs the required services (shipping, insurance) via escrow.
    5. Buyer receives the goods.
    6. If the goods comply with buyer's conditions, Sterling Bond releases the money to seller.

As you can see, you will receive the car BEFORE any money is released to me. You will get the chance to inspect it, test drive it and everything you like while your money is still safely held in Sterling Bond account. ONLY after you confirm to escorw that you agree with the vehicle, they will release the money to me.
If, for some reason, you disagree with the car (I assure you that is NOT going to happen since my car is in IMMACULATE condition inside and out) it will be shipped back to me on MY EXPENSE and Sterling Bond will send you your money back.
If you wish to proceed further, I will need your complete name and address so I can set up the transaction. I will handle the rest.

Let me know if we can get things moving.
    Regards

    Reply from me:
your name wouldnt happen to have been Adam Bale in a past life would it? - you are a low life.

I'll let you in on a secret although I did post this awhile back.

I had my car for sale last November and a guy got onto me looking interested and wanted photos. Now I was not aware of all the scams and I believed it and even sent on more photos when he asked me.

Never heard from him again until my car started appearing on carzone for €5k (true value €20k) with the photos I had sent him. He keeps putting the ad up every 2/3 weeks and I must ring carzone to pull it down.

Sometimes I will email pretending to be interested and then just fcuk with him for awhile...he is basically trying to sell my car back to me even though he doesnt have it...

Another escrow company is Ukcarpayments.com. The seller told me he was in Glasgow.
This is his final message to me
    Hi Jessica
the car is here with me. I also told you that I can transport the car to your address at no cost . I've been searching for the best solution for this transaction and one of my employees suggested a specialized company to handle the funds since the distance is an inconvenience for both of us. He suggested the following escrow company: www.ukcarpayments.com. I've read their terms and they can also take care of the necessary paperwork in order to register the car in your name in case you decide to keep it. All you have to do is to register at their website and then I need your user name so I can set up the transaction. You can read their terms here: www.ukcarpayments.com/howitworks.php. I give you seven days to test the car and only if you decide to keep it, they will release the money to me so, I believe this is the safest way. Let me know your decision because there is another person who wants to buy it and I need to know which way to go. The car will come with the servoce book, manuals and two remote controls for the alarm. One more thing I saw that they accept paypal and bank transfer as payment method which I believe is 100% secure. Let me know your decision as soon as possible. The tax is due to expire in August 2009 and NCT in September 2010.

I searched for the site with google but couldn't find it. I searched with "who is" and it is registered in Russia.
The name of the operator is Erwin Putnum

currently in discussions with Bart De Groot who is selling his 05 WH 3656 Golf for a keen €4400.

    Hi Brian,
I think I told you before that currently I'm in Glasgow with my employees because we have a house to build and the car is here with me. I also told you that I can transport the car to your address at no cost . I've been searching for the best solution for this transaction and one of my employees suggested a specialized company to handle the funds since the distance is an inconvenience for both of us. He suggested the following escrow company: www.carzoneautosecurity.com. Quick call to my friends in the local Five-0 station revealed that the car is registered to a Kevin someone living in Castleknock. My friend also let me know that there had been over 20 inquiries from all over the country regarding that reg number. Dodge City. Gonna email back asking why Kevin has gotten a possible Dutch man living in Glasgow to sell his car for him???

Details of car is silver VW Golf 1.9 TDI 05 WH 3656

Its ridiculous that this is happening. I really hope people are not getting caught out on this scam, but the general rule of thumb is the more people they start talks with the more chance someone has of being conned out of some hard earned cash. There should be more visibility online when checking registered owners of cars. Those twenty euro crash reports are a waste. If you know a Garda, or someone who works in a SIMI garage, or knows someone who knows someone, get them to get the reg checked.

How anyone would part with cash before even seeing a car. Anyone can grab some pics of the net and post a car ad.

    caveat emptor

Latest correspondence from Erwin Putnum re carzone

    Hi Jessica,
You have nothign to worry about, I give you seven days to test the car and if you decide not to keep it they will refund your money in full. You have two options for this:
    1) When the car arrives, my employee can take you to an inspection service and if you don't like it, he can simply bring it back
    2) You can test it for seven days and if you don't like it you can ship it back with any shipper you want and I pay once it arrives here so....you have nothing to lose.
I'm so confident in this car and I'm 100% convinced that you will like it for sure. My friends think I'm crazy when it's about cars and that's because they think I take care of my car more than I should do. For example, oil can be changed between 7000-10000 miles but..... I change it every 5000 miles and now you know what I mean. I prefer to be called crazy and drive a safe car rather than bring it to mechanics all the time.
I'm a non smoker and a clean person and I take care of my things like i take care of myself so, this is like a new car to me. Most of it's miles are highway because with my construction firm I never get to stay more than 1 year in one place and.....an engine that has the oil changed every 5000 miles is as new. One more thing, I also saw that carzone recommends using this escrow service www.ukcarpayments.com for a transaction like this. You can see at this link where I also saw that they recommend using this escrow company:
    www.carzone.ie/escrow/
Your funds will be safe at the escrow company and since you have plenty of secure methods of payment such as bank wire or paypal, I believe this is the safest way for both sides.

How he got the carzone page is beyond me. I couldn't find it on Carzone

For a confirmation, I just got this message yesterday:

Hi, Thank you for your kind and prompt response I really appreciate it. This is to indicate my acceptance in buy the object, I’ve agreed to buy the property at the stipulated price of $315,000 USD ! Please kindly understand my inability to visit your place for physical inspection of the property for the fact that I'm not currently in your country at the moment and duty will not permit me to do so.
    BRIEF DETAIL ABOUT MY PERSON!
I am Spec, Nick Eckfield a US Army commander of 3rd Infantry with the US lead coalition forces currently in Iraq on a war against terrorism/freedom of Iraqis. Based on United Nation Security council and United States legislative and executive decision for withdrawing all coalition troops from Iraq this year, I have been approved for withdrawal in few weeks time and will move to your country after my withdrawal from Iraq and subsequent retiring from 35 years of meritorious service and to work as a consultant to your country's arm forces. My mission in your country will be to work hand in hand with your country finest intelligence officer to strengthen there capability in checkmating the activities of terrorist groups possibly operating within your country based on CIA intelligence report. I will need a private house for myself during my period of staying in your country that is why I contacted you concerning your object on offer.
PROPOSED PAYMENT FOR THE PROPERTY; Though I'm fully aware this might sounds WEIRD and seems to be a HOAX to you knowing what comes to mind when stuff like this comes through Internet! But I implore you to just give me some meets of your audience and thoroughly read through the content of this mail.
Consider the task we have been facing here virtually every day for the past 6 years which I know you must have been watching on television, you will then agree with me and consider it worthy to assist me on this! I have in my custody the sum of $14.5million US Dollars cash! Which I want you to assist me to receive for safe keeping pending my arrival in your country. I got the money during our raid on insurgent hideout in a remote area of Baghdad in April 2003 which was abandoned by a fleeing regime leader on sensing that we are trailing them though they were got killed during shoot out.
I and Master Sgt MARK BOWLING, Chief Commander officer of my unit agreed that we will part with some potion of the money before making it known to the military authority. Though seems quite an illegal thing to do by officers of our calibre, but considering the amount of risk we run virtually every day which I have lost number of close allies and relative including my brother in-law who was killed by a road side bomb, you will agree with me on parting with this little amount of the fund! I got this money deposited with a Red Cross undercover agent informed him that it's belong to an European Contractor who was held hostage and later killed be an insurgent group, but we are making contact to trace his relatives so that the money will be repatriate back to them, I TOLD HIM THIS JUST TO SHIELD MYSELF FROM THE OWNERSHIP OF THE MONEY! Since I cannot personally move this money to your country where I will be spending my retirement age and assume my next job in few weeks from now or to the United States since the US Military Code of Conduct prohibits us from such act. It's under my power to approve whoever comes forth for this money, so for this, I need someone I could trust! If you accept and sincerely know that you can be trusted! I will transfer the money to your region where you will be the beneficiary because as a military personnel I cannot be in custody of such amount that’s why I need to present someone as the beneficiary. Being an American and a Specialist officer works with the military intelligence department here in Al-Basrah, I have 100% authentic means of transferring the money through diplomatic courier service here in Al-Basrah. I just need your acceptance and all is done!
Please if you wish to assist me to receive this money, I want you to tell me in percentage how much of this money I should give you for your assistance. Though I have in mind of giving you 20% but I will appreciate if you tell me yourself! I will give you the complete details on how we will execute this transaction successfully only when I’m fully convinced that you are willing to assist me and believing that my fair share will be well secured in your hands for the sake you have fear of GOD. Once you agree on this, you will deduct the property purchase price of $315,000 USD from this fund.
I believe I can trust you? One passionate appeal I'm gonna make to you is not to discuss the content of this mail with anybody! Should you have reasons to reject this offer, please kindly destroy this mail content as any leakage of this information will be too catastrophe for soldiers here in Iraq! I have been shot and wounded twice and twice I have survived two terrible suicide bomb attacks just by special grace of God, this has prompted me to reach out for help. I will honestly want this be resolved immediately!
Please all contractual and change of ownership notary agreement relating to the property will be done the moment I'm in your country because i want to personally sign it myself to forestall any futuristic hiccups.
At successful conclusion of this transaction, It is my intention to devote 30% of this money to support the effort of the global world to alleviate the sufferings of more than 3 million innocent Iraqi citizen’s who are refugees in Turkey, Jordan and Kuwait. Also 10% will be contributed in helping the refugees in Darfur region of Sudan, Myanmar and East Timor Where we currently have the highest number of refugees and displaced people as a result of crisis in those Countries. You need to visit such places; you will shed tears to see what human beings like us are going through on a daily basis! My experience on battle ground in this place shows they lack lots of nutritional imbalance, some can go a whole day without food or water its horrible to face. So Instead of allowing these terrorists to get the money and spend it on purchasing arms from Russia and China to fight us and poses a serious threat to world peace, its better channeled to saving the world!
Awaits your positive response so we can proceed, in less than 12 working days the money would've been secured in your custody and I will come over for the house contractual agreement signing and collect my fair share of the money. Though this money will never bring back many of my close friends and those innocent Iraqis who sacrifices there lives to ensure a safer and secure world! May there souls rest in the bosom of ALMIGHTY GOD! But we can only use this money to give back hope to those currently at the different refugee camps in and around Iraq!

NOTE that You are to deduct the property total agreed purchase price of $315,000 USD from this fund $14.5million US Dollars.

    Best Regards

I am Spanish and I have received this email. I have sent after answering an ad for an apartment for sale in an Internet portal. In Spanish. He told me he was interested in the apartment to tell him the price, and today I took the hair with this story.
Message is identical to yours. To you as you have identified? Know something more of these kinds of messages?
    Thanks and best regards

Hi there, the car is still available for the price of 4.270 EUR and that I am awfully sorry for the late reply.
The car is in excellent overall condition, never involved in an accident. The car is still Irish registered.
I worked in Ireland for 2 years and the company I worked for was disolved and I had to move back to UK. The only reason I'm forced to sell my baby is to fund my impending wedding and I'll be incredibly sad to see it go.
    Please get back to me.

Was on Carzone yesterday and saw a 2008 Ford Focus for €4,000, inquired and got a response from one Elliot Bird as per the below.

    Hello,

I am glad to hear that you are interested to buy my 2008 Ford Focus! Although I am registered in Ireland,i recently moved to Huelva, Spain (where my family is from) and the car is being shipped from here. I want to sell it in Ireland due to the fact that it's an Irish version (right handed),it meets all Irish standards.I bought this car from Ireland and It still has Irish registration, so you won't have to pay any import and insurance fees. The car meets all Ireland`a guidelines so there will be no problem regarding Customs policy on receiving the car.The car is in perfect condition, the bodywork is immaculate,no scratches, dents or hidden defects as well as the interior in excellent non-smoking condition , never been implied in any accident and it is as advertised .The car comes with log book, HPI cleared, No finance. You will get from me the keys and all documents to register the car in you name.If the car is not how i described it, i will offer a full refund. It will be insured during transportation and will be delivered at your address in maximum 10 days. Final price is EUR 4,000 (the price includes shipping and insurance fees). The price is low because the car is right hand drive in a country where all cars are left hand drive so in the Spain is very difficult to drive this type of vehicle and nobody wants to buy it here in Spain.Instead of keeping it in garage (during this economical crisis), I decided to sell it to someone back in Ireland for a really attractive price.
I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% legitimate, the financial part of this deal will be managed by a company that has offices in both Ireland and Spain and in this way both buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.
Let me know if you need any further details or if you would like to buy my car.

    Thank you!

Seriously WTF with all the scams on Carzone, and would they ever take grammer lessons!

    how about this one... http://www.carzone.ie/search/BMW/M3/3.0-with/200930194667106/advert?channel=CARS

dealer says "BMW M3 3.0 with 1.8 on book"
    cartell says "BMW 330 CI E46 02DR"
    Engine says "BMW M Power"

Dodgy import or rebadged car? a 1.8 330ci is impossible in itself, and the car is an E36, not 46 so wtf is it?

Honestly did you think you could really buy a one year old Focus for €4k? The next cheapest one is €12,900, surely that rang some sort of alarm bell?

Not having a go at you in particular but until people wise up and do their homework these scams will always exist. If something sounds too good to be true then take that it is.

Unfortunately people obviously do, otherwise they wouldn't keep putting these adverts up.

On finding a BMW 7 series for just under 9 grand on carzone, I jumped at it, trying to call the number, which didnt work. So I emailed, and despite me asking 6 times for another contact number, I recieved the following emails. The " car being in ebays custody" sort of got me thinking, so looked on here, and viola! SCAM!!!! I would have gone ahead with this, but thanks to this site, and the same guy, CHRIS HUNT, popped up a few time, with the same story. Ive learned a lesson, if its too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true. Thankfully, I told hime I dont want his mingy car...am waiting for the abuse, lol :)

Here are the emails i recieved, so keep an eye out for anything similar:

The car is in eBay's custody in London, UK and they have the right to handle the transaction in my name.
If we come to an agreement the car will be delivered directly to your home address and the shipping&insurance cost will be 300EUR, and i think it would be fair to split the costs in half, so we will have to pay 150EUR each. The car will be shipped by truck and that will take up to 3 days. The transaction will be fully under eBay's surveillance, giving us both security and insurance that nothing will go wrong. They are acting like an inter agent in this transaction. From the moment the car arrives at your address, you have 5 days to see and test it which way you like. Within this period you have to decide if you purchase it or not.
To register this transaction at eBay, I will need your full name, address and a contact number

Hi there, the car is still available for the price of 8.960 EUR and that I am awfully sorry for the late reply.

I got an email as a result of an ad for my bug for sale. Then I got an email referring to messages in my inbox. I opened the email and didn't like what I saw so I closed it again. This afternoon, I got an email from done deal support warning against opening the email.

I don't know what the scam is. The done deal support email only mentioned about changing my done deal password.

    Hi

Im trying to sell my Mazda Mx3 and have advertised it on a few sites, including the infamous one Carzone.

I have had an inquiry about it. Im not sure, though, if its a scam. Appreciate any feedback you can give.

Query from a Dennis Hopkins Autos

Asking me is the car still for sale? I reply yes, he asks for last price, then rephrases nearest price I'll accept. I tell him the price and he sends me this email
I think i can afford that. Mode of payment will be a cheque or a banker draft depending on your preference which will usually take 3 to 5 working days to clear at your bank. I am willing to wait till it clears before any pickup will be made

    Do send me your details.
    Name:
    Address:
    Phone Number:

I ask why he wants to buy a car without viewing it first and he replies:

I wont be able to come for the viewing for the car as i am on a business trip at the moment but i am willing to send your details to my bank to make payment via bank draft to you for to clear at your bank. Afterwards i will send someone for the pickup.

    I hope you understand.

I ask him for a phone number to discuss, and I get this reply:

the car will be going to Ireland... but i am located in London. You can call me on ++447536999854 so we can discuss.

    Is this a scam????

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, you can be pretty sure it's some kind of duck.

    YES!

Think its an old one. Some trick where cheques "clears" and the money goes to your account but when the bank validates the cheque fully, it bounces and they take the money right back.

Seriously though, who would buy a car before even viewing it?
