Have any of you guys used this company before. Really does sound to good to be true!

  • Registered Users Posts: 160 ✭✭Gone Fishin

They have no company registration number, no VAT number, the phone number goes straight to a voicemail queue system, no dates for when the company was set up.

Run away. Normally if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

yes, I have used them and a couple of friends I recommended also did, and it was a really straight forward process, I did my checks and found them really professional.

Divorce, I agree with you totally, run a mile from this site and the guy saying they are fine. Do a company check on them. Scam material.

They actually are an official company, this was on the email sent back to me:
Carsuppliers Limited is a limited company incorporated in the United Kingdom with registration number 5790747

    Checks out: http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk/27f200cdacc1d48c096964913a9ce3fa/compdetails

They are a relatively new company, so may explain why there is not much info on them.

Mind you leaving a deposit over the phone is not my forte, so i shall not be availing of their services. They warrant a bit of investigation though, wouldnt like anyone else to be caught out.

Hmm, I googled the first line of the registered address and there's a lot of listed companies with the same address. Wonder why... maybe just a forwarding address?

why does everybody seem so suspicious these days, is it unthinkable to think that a company could actually be genuine! I did approach them with a certain amount of trepidation, but was soon very happy with how they dealt with me, and they do have a lot of testimonials on their site, which includes people in Ireland - why would they go to all the trouble of having a full on website with terms and condiitons etc etc

some of you on here are a bit wishy washy with your company validation techniques!!;)

Care to share your brilliant insight into how to validate a company?

Testimonials? ha ha. Thats how you interpret if a company is genuine or not. Did you contact any of these people to verify what they said?

These can be made up if necessary.

By the way you didnt answer my question. How is it you just happened to join up to boards.ie the day i asked about this company. You have been on other forums assuring people these guys are genuine and you are the only one by the way. Do you google carsuppliers to uphold their professional integrity just out of the goodness of your heart? Because according to you, you have already used them so there is no need to be searching for them.

it seems that the scammers use the same email template the whole time! Maybe a bit of creativity is needed :P

On another note at least the link is genuine and not a spoof!

Another one for the "too good to be true" pile... :p

Out of sheer curiosoty, I mailed the guy about this: http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=201022198247632

Turns out the car is in Spain but if I'm seriously interested, we can negotiate the shipping price. I just said thanks but no thanks.

    Pity.. wouldn't mind a nice A6 :D

Great, you can pick it up while you're going over to collect your Euromillions winnings (even though you never entered it, weird)! :D

    To follow up....

After me saying no thanks, I've gotten another email:
Since I have a written contract with eBay, they will handle this sale for me and they will act as a third party between us, they also helped me with the shipping contract.
If you are interested in buying my car I will need your full name, address and phone number, after that eBay will contact you and explain you all the process.
They will explain how we can have a safe deal for both of us.
The shipping cost is €600 but I think is fair to pay it both, so the final price including shipping will be €8,800.

Ebay are selling cars themselves now?? :P

Spotted this earlier. How dodgy do we think it is? It's almost €3000 less than other Fiestas from the same year and the only image is of the interior.

I don't see any phone number either. What a weird ad, do they expect anyone in their right mind to buy that car from one picture of the interior and an email address?

op theirs a dedicated thread stickied at the top of the page for all these ads..

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,810 ✭✭✭ergonomics

I know about the scam thread but I didn't think this was a scam when I posted it. I thought it was more a case of the outside of the car being in bits and the person who posted the advert didn't want anyone to know that so they didn't post any other photos. If the mods want to move it to the scam thread I won't complain.

Email them and you'll more than likely get a response that the car is in England but registered as Irish..blah blah

    Hello,

I bought a used car i saw advertised on DoneDeal.ie last week and it turns out to be a crashed car!
I know in hind sight I did everything wrong as in I did not bring a mechanic with me to look at it. I live in Galway and had to travel to Carlow to see the car. Because i was looking for an affordable automatic, 2000 VW Passat 1.9TDi. The guy advertising it for sale said he would accept 1,400 for it.
When I told him that I was looking for a reliable used car for my family and would it be worth travelling the 6 hour round trip to Carlow to see it he said yes, it is very clean etc. Timing belt done 20,000 Km ago. Mileage now 200,000 Km.
We heard a knocking sound on one side when driving the car, but Husband reckoned he knew it would not cost too much to fix this?! and if we got him down to 1100 euro, sure we'd be grand.
We gave him the 1100 euro and off we went. 10 miles outside of Carlow the car overheated and needed to be topped up with water twice on the road back to this guys house!!:eek::eek:
Surprise, surprise, the guy wasn't there when we got back, and any of the neighbours we approached said that they didn't know anything!
We reported all this to the Guards and they said it was a civil matter.
Later on in the week as we were on to every mechanic and used car dealer in Carlow to get prices to fix the car, one used car dealer asked us if the guys name was Marius, and we said yes. Apparently he had a similar story not too long ago from someone else, this guy is a gangster.
I am not sure if I am posting this in the correct area.
We learned alot of hard lessons here. Getting the car to Galway has cost us 200euro and the cost of repair is still unknown as we have a mechanic on the case for us today and will know the total price but he did tell us that it appears to have been crashed!!
Head gasket and timing belt and water pump, yet to get full list......:(
