    Hi All,
    Just picked up a 99 Civic hatchback this morning! The gear stick knob is vibrating to an extent that its borderline uncomfortable to rest the hand on when driving. I didnt notice this on the test drive last week and as the warranty on the car is only for a month am worried that this may be a sign of gear box trouble to come. Any thoughts or is this normal?

    Most likely it is one of the following;

    1. Worn Shifter Bushings, which are really easy and cheap to replace
    2. The bottom of the shifter, or its balancing weight touching the heatshield on the exhaust, again a simple tweak at a garage to sort it
    3. That the bolt securing the base of the shifter to the shift rod has come slightly loose
    4. That the car has a cheap after market short shifter fitted, replace with OEM or a better short shifter

    All in all its not likely to be a sign of anything too bad, so take it back to the garage and ask them to take a look.

    It's not normal for a Civic, had one of those models and no vibration. However you shouldn't rest the hand on the gear lever.
