Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

MacBook battery level stuck at 0%

Hey, I have a borrowed MacBook for a few months and it's been working fine. Last week I noticed that, even though the power adapter light is green (indicating the battery is fully charged), the battery icon says 0%. So every time I plug out the adapter the system switches off immediately. it doesn't matter how long I have it off or charged for the batt level still reads 0%.

I've taken the batt out and made sure there's nothing obvious like dust getting in the way. I've also looked into batt calibration but I don't think it's relevant in this case )or possible to do).

I really don't want to hand it back to it's owner in this state:eek:

Any ideas? or is the batt just dead?

see the thread started yesterday titled "serious problem with my MacBook" ....

I would reset the SMC, reset PRAM and do a software update to make sure the recent battery update is installed. Failing that - ring Apple if it is in warranty.

Thanks Babypink, I reset the SMC and I heard a continuous whizzing sound from my system - the battery icon showed an X over it and my system info said that the batt wasn't installed! so I reset the SMC again and it went back to previous state of 0% (without the whizzing).

I then reset the PRAM - didn't make any difference

I then checked the batt updater in my system config and it showed that I have version 1.3. The Apple site says that this is the most current version for my system so I don't think there's any point in messing with that.

Anyone have any other ideas? my system isn't under warranty :(

Any chance that you could borrow another MacBook battery to try in that MB (and try that battery in the other MacBook)?

    Hey Type,

Thanks for your suggestion, I already thought of that, will be able to swap on Friday with another MB battery, at least that way the problem can be narrowed down for sure.

I'll post the outcome on Fri, it might help another user with the same problem in the future.

We had a similar problem with our macbook, in the battery menu is it saying "battery not charging" ?

On ours it was the power adapter that had gone faulty, gave the green light, but wouldn't charge at all. This may or may not be the same problem, if you can get another adapter to try too it will help narrow things down.

You can check the condition of the battery using the Apple System Profiler, under the power section.
