Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Vista: 'BOOTMGR is missing"

I was watching a movie from my external hdd on my laptop and when it was over I closed vlc and took out the usb cable while the hardrive was still turned on without realising...

I went to another room to plug in my ethernet cable in and firefox crashed while I was on boards and I couldnt close it so I turned off the laptop (power button for a few seconds).

I turned the laptop back on and got the error "0Xc000000f windows failed to boot, Windows\System32\winload.exe is crupt or missing."

I couldn't boot into vista so I put in the vista DVD and started the repair tool, tried a startup repair with no joy and also did a complete repair cant remember the proper name, left that run over night. In the moring I got the error:

    BOOTMGR is missing.
Press ctrl ald and del to restart.

Did that and it pops up again and again, endless loop. I tried to open cmd prompt and enter bootrec /fixboot (a fix I saw on a few sites I visited) and said it was sucessfull but didn't seem to do anything.

I've now tried to reinstall vista altogether twice both times failing at the installing updates section of the install. Haven't a clue what to do now...

Sorry for the essay and fair play if you made it this far, any ideas???

    Cheers!
