Compared to the ****e you get in most other coffee shops? Bewleys? Heated up MUCK!!! Starbucks produce good quality coffee and a great athmosphere... Oh and your ass doesn't hurt when you get up off their seats ;)

You think you are going to walk into a place which offers you an amazing service and pay the same as you would anywhere else? Pffft, you are sooo wrong. By comparison, bewleys has rediculous prices.

Less of the grammar police, christ... not everyone is as perfect as ye two, God help us all if they were.

    Great atmosphere? Amazing service?

Are you a bloody rep for starbucks or something?

It's a load of ****e. Nothing more to it.
oh and the people who serve you are always arseholes(if they're in Dublin, they're usually from D4 or think they are, if the rest of the country..they think they're from D4 too)

No I am not a bloody rep for anywhere... I am entitled to my opinion, am I not? Explane how their employees are "arseholes", oh is it because that D4 accent annoys you?

I am speaking from experience, I have been to their coffee shops quite a lot and never found anything wrong with their service, and yes, their is an athmosphere to the place.

What other coffee shops are there? How would you rate them?

in the town i live in we had no book shops -- we had a library but last week it burnt down--but all was not lost they saved one book --and not all the pages had been coloured in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,828 ✭✭✭robo

Not everyone has to buy from Starbucks...if you don't like it, don't go near the place. But it would be nice for those who like Starbucks to have it in the town?
I think that Carlow is big enough to have a few more coffee shops...a big Borders with a starbucks would be nice.

Brooks is good, I like it, its still expensive though so....I'm sticking with Starbucks :) We have a Starbucks in our Uni's canteen and its far from posh or pretencious, the people working there are ordinary Joe Soaps. The decor is just the bare minimum of whats needed, not even any seats in there, and still theres a Q out the door most mornings, even though you could get coffee out of the machine for a £1. So people do pay extra for a decent coffee and obviously think its worth it if they keep coming back....
I'd love it if Carlow got a Starbucks....but I'm never ther so it doesn't bother me all that much

We had one in I.T. Carlow Kate, I kept to the mocha :P Yum.

I do like the food in brooks, but I have never drank their coffee. You know when you like something from a specific shop, you tend to stick with it? I might try a coffee in brooks some day. I know The Temple (aka Tao) Do some really really nice hot chocolates, but I am not sure if they are machine dispenced or not.

I do love Brooks also and it is the usual place that I go to for food when shopping in Carlow. However, I never go to Starbucks for food, only a Frapuccino!
I think that other coffee shops would survive with Starbucks there also.

I had the most disgusting coffee today in costa - not good.

brooks can be good. busier the place the better really for stuff

i would love to see all the shops returning to the town centre instead of locating a half hours walk out in the country! and fairgreen should be turned back into a cattle mart

    I second this!

Also, I completely agree with everyone about the cinema/bookshop fiasco. It's beyond a joke. I just don't bother with the (cin)eplex (will they ever fix that sign?) or byrnes anymore. I just wait for the DVD and get all my books on amazon.

I'll tell you what we need, not a shop as such, and perhaps related to the cinema thread, but we need somewhere that'll show fecking decent movies, not all this regurgitated Hollywood garbage! I want to go to cinema more and enjoy movies in this format but how can i go when all thats on offer is some teenage flick (with all the same actors), some comedy about someone getting married, or divorced, another animation based on another fecking animal or a bloody part 4 or 5 of some sequence of movies when part 1 was rubbish anyway.

Somewhere that'll show European/foreign language movies or at least some sort of alternative, god damn we need it!! Too much to ask for? What sort of cinema is this new one we're supposed to be getting? Do you think it'd show such movies?

    Rant over :pac:

It'd be great. I saw Nightwatch in the much derided cinema. I was on my own i think. A special monday night showing. Shows how much hunger there is for non-hollywood films in carlow i suppose.

The new one will probably be much the same. You have the IFI in dublin for films like that, that's the most likely place you'll see them i'm afraid.

Yeah I think that for those kinda movies you are going to have to travel to the IFI or The lighthouse.

Definitely going to be in the minority with this but I would like to see a comic shop...... or decent toy shop for all the kids stuck inside us.:pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭stick-dan

was talking to one of the staff in Special Days and they were saying that there's a lot of retro kids stuff coming in instead of the food & wine which thay are clearing out. (yummy prices!)

She was talking about some huge marble stand that will be full of different marbles and a lot of old style games rather than the boring board games you get everywhere.

Also, heard that byrnes will be closing the upper levels of their tullow st store (does anybody go up there anyway??)
