hello all, i was just looking on carzone at the lexus is220d emissions and noticed that they have the standard is220d at 168(g/km) but they have the is220d sport at 193-195(g/km) why is this?both models use the exact same engine and power.

if this is right it means the standard car would be in band D=24% but the sport model would be in band F=32%.

its the same on the rte website,im just wondering if they say it goes by the emissions on every car from july 1st are they gonna do this if one model is worth more than another?

let me know what yez think.

    cheers!!

sport has a different gearbox with shorter ratios than the standard one. don't think there should be that much of a gap though.

but the sport and the standard model have identical gearboxes and ratios.

    is 220d sport=

Manual six-speed transmission with gear lever on floor, 5.232:1 first gear ratio, 2.644:1 second gear ratio, 1.065:1 third gear ratio, 1.219:1 fourth gear ratio, 1.000:1 fifth gear ratio, 0.728:1 sixth gear ratio and 4.525:1 reverse gear ratio manual

    is 220d standard=

Manual six-speed transmission with gear lever on floor, 5.232:1 first gear ratio, 2.644:1 second gear ratio, 1.065:1 third gear ratio, 1.219:1 fourth gear ratio, 1.000:1 fifth gear ratio, 0.728:1 sixth gear ratio and 4.525:1 reverse gear ratio manual

    so thats not the reason.

I didn't realise the difference was that high, but the sport definately has larger tyres. Mercedes have different CO2 emissions based on the different trim levels, due to the tyres on the cars.

The sport has different ratios as far as I was aware and higher fuel consumption together with the wider tyres etc leading to higher co2

i didnt think bigger wheels and tyres would make a difference, ive calculated that it would be an extra €2,600 vrt to bring in a sport from england.

    rip off!!

Looked up a brochure on IS 220d. The ratios you quoted are correct but the 'final drive' ratio which you didnt mention is 2.474 for standard car and 3.266 for the sport. I dont know anything about gearboxes but I would guess that it basically means that you overall ratios are a third shorter in the sport than the standard one.
